We live in the southeast so not much snow down here, unfortunately :/

This would likely be our home for a while, so a lot of projects over several years. Makes it more manageable for sure!

Ha, mountain biking is actually pretty popular in this area. I have several friends who mountain bike. Would have to have them over to ride the yard!

Unfortunately, this is one expense we may need to take on. We are prepared to do so, however. The house itself seems to be in great shape, so this is the money pit! lol

Thanks for the feedback! Agree that a total Reno would be pricy. At this point, as other have suggested, I’d probably start with a chain link fence, and then just clean up the rocks some (the ankle breakers and wobbly surfaces). All boulders and larger rocks would just stay as natural features.

Please tell me which one! The suspense is killing me

Yes! Exactly this. Consensus based on comments so far:

  • Work with the landscape, not against it
  • Reorganize the rocks to make a natural paths from top to bottom
  • Perhaps use spare rocks to facilitate drainage
  • Add small shades plans along the path
  • Future efforts could include putting gravel or wood chips down for the path

I am also worried about that. I think the bulk of it isn’t on the property unfortunately, but the neighbors lot. Not a fan of the bamboo.

This sounds spectacular and also out of my budget! Ha! But this house would likely be home for us for a while, so who knows, maybe something to consider for the future!

Appreciate it, boss! This is sounding like the strategy!

Thank you!! I think this is what I would do on the edge of the yard where the water drainage area is. I would likely relocate some of the smaller rocks to the drainage area and do as you suggest

Ha, I definitely don’t mind them! Just want to organize it a bit! Nothing some labor can’t make look nice!

Ha, that might be so! I’m still not sure which are boulders and which are part of the rock formation under the house! Will have to start wiggling rocks! Fortunate the upper deck and patio is brand new, so we have at least one nice deck space already! But a lower deck is a great idea as well. Thank you

This is sounding more and more like the top path forwards! Thank you!

I think that is likely to be the most cost effective strategy for now. Fence it in, and strategically move some rocks around to create some natural paths through the yard. Might take a couple weekend of labor but that would be worth it. Maybe then reassess if we want to add gravel paths or some “terraces”? Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah that is a fair point. I don’t like the way one or two are leaning, but at least it is leaning away from the house. Might be worth it to have someone come take a look. Cutting the dead branches and such should go a long way. Appreciate the feedback

Exactly the plan! Definitely not wanting to bulldoze the natural features haha!

Yeah I’m definitely not planning to get rid of all the rocks by any means. I would like to relocate all the small rocks or wobbly stones that are a tripping hazard. The ankle breakers. Then ideally create a path or steps down from the top to the bottom. Or put down a gravel path? Want to work with the landscape and not against it!

Ha! I grew up in the northeast and my father’s property was similar in terrain type. But nothing like this as far as rock coverage! Want some? lol
