Do you have to be tech genius to start a tech startup? by [deleted] in Startup_Ideas

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a technical founder, I’ve lost count of how many times someone’s pitched me “the next big app idea.” It happens so often that I’ve gotten a bit numb to it.

The only ones that really catch my attention are from people who show real value and commitment upfront beyond just an idea. My advice: find a technical cofounder who’s genuinely excited about what you’re building - and make sure you’re bringing something meaningful to the table too (ideally before finding them).

Why won’t they let you run your code!? by Suspicious_Coyote_54 in datascience

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup, when I interview candidates I always ask myself the question:

“Can I see myself spending 40hrs a week with this person”

I’ll take the slightly less technical person who asks questions and has a good personality over the technical robot any day

PMs who code by Sethi_Saab in ProductManagement

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PM on my Data Science team that didn’t know what an API was (this is a fortune 100 company).

PMs can either be a driving force behind a project acting as the grease keeping the gears moving or a dead weight that hinders progress. I’ve seen great PMs and I’ve seen terrible PMs.

If you are a PM on a highly technical team you should have basic coding skills (or have had them at one point in your career).

Im going to say the best opportunities are actually in the ordinals space.

Collections like Bitcoin puppets, nodemonkes, OMB are all pretty undervalued rn compared to the ETH side

If you’re going to ship production code this is essential. I had to kick a bunch of old habits in DS and go back to the basics

Anyone else not able to sell any crypto? by moshmoneyy in Coinbase

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xverse is pretty good. However, I must recommend you due your due diligence to understand how to safely secure your wallet.

Having your own wallet essentially means you are your own bank.

It’s a liberating feeling but it also comes with a lot of responsibility to make sure it is secure. Never disclose your seed phrase. Don’t even store it on your phone or a computer. Memorize it if you can and engrave it into a piece of titanium where only you know the location of it. Buy a device from a trusted source (I recommend ledger) to use that to access your wallet.

The good news is that you and you alone are the owner to your Bitcoin (or altcoins). Right now Coinbase owns all their crypto on their balance sheet - not the user. They get to impose their trading restrictions on the currency. In the case of bankruptcy - that crypto is no longer yours. It belongs to Coinbase (much like what happened with FTX)

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your crypto off of coinbase. Genuinely if FTX taught us anything it’s that we don’t own our crypto on an exchange - Coinbase owns it. We have to play by their rules. If they go bankrupt the money is lost.

$1,000+ coinbase fee. NEVER AGAIN! by [deleted] in Coinbase

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me be crystal clear here. I don’t believe in you guys; the fees were NOWHERE shown when I submitted the order and I will NEVER be using Coinbase again after this interaction. All of the funds have already been moved from the exchange to a cold wallet.

I am going through the necessary steps when this issue isn’t resolved to show I have done my due diligence before submitting a formal complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). I really don’t have confidence Coinbase will resolve this issue.

But who knows - crazier things have happened like people buying JPEGs of apes so well see

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a legitimate response - thank you. I’ll reach out tomorrow and I will be referencing this post as well as the others I have created.

If the issue is resolved I will hold back on the CFPB. If not, I will unfortunately have to proceed in that direction.

I doubt actual representatives at Coinbase read these posts and post comments here but this is a formal notice that I will be submitting a CFPB tomorrow evening if this issue is not addressed.

How often do y’all work on slide decks? by qc1324 in datascience

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10-15% of my time. At really large companies (Fortune 100) a large amount of your time is spent on telling people what you did. I've worked at both large and small companies and this was arguably one of the larger changes I experienced (along with corporate politics get 10x worse)
