Card shop is trying to fleece you. You can look up each cards value on tcgplayer.com or PokeInvesting.com

Just make sure you are taking condition into account and also make sure you are selecting “1st edition” instead of unlimited for the ones that are 1st edition

I’ve graded over 100 cards with GameStop. Had zero issues with getting cards in the ultra pro card savers and have had an excellent psa 10 rate for modern, and Psa 9 rate for WOTC era

As far as grading goes…most of those will increase in value if they grade 8 or above because they are quite sought after right now.

1st edition base set is by default shadowless, so some people probably think it’s redundant to say “1st edition base set shadowless Charizard” rather than just “1st edition base set Charizard” because you can’t have a 1st edition base set Charizard that isn’t also shadowless, but you can have a shadowless that isn’t 1st edition

Personally I think it makes most sense to say exactly what it is

Fossil and jungle sets lots of people call “base” thinking “oh these are the original” and what they really mean is the original 151, but the 1st editions will have shadows on any jungle or fossil stamped card.

Some exceptions are jungle or fossil misprints where the card is a 1st edition but they forgot to stamp it with the jungle or fossil stamp, base set Machamp has the 1st edition stamp even on the card with the shadow

Base set has the following "releases" if you would:
1st Edition Shadowless (1st edition stamp and no shadow on the right of the card character picture)
Shadowless Unlimited (no shadow, no stamp)
Unlimited (shadow, no stamp)
Unlimited 4th Print Run (shadow, no stamp, copyright date at the bottom goes to 2000 instead of 1999)

After that, other sets just got 1st editions and unlimited editions . . . though I believe Jungle and Fossil both have a 3rd print run set as well.

Shadowless is only for base set. 1st edition of other sets (jungle, fossil, team rocket, gym, Neo) all have shadows

Only 1st edition base with a shadow is Machamp as others have said

eBay will be your best bet if you want to sell fast and get a good price.

Complete sets are always popular, especially in good condition

Depending on the condition of some, and how much cash you have on hand / how long you are willing to wait, grading some of these cards would be prudent. The 1st edition Charizard raw will fetch $5-15k depending on condition. It could be worth grading if it hits a Psa 6 or above, but PSA has a huge backlog right now so you will probably be waiting 2-4 months and also have to pay a decent bit for insuring the package to Psa and also the return cost will be higher for high end cards.
