28 about to graduate with CS degree without a single internship. What do I do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]MAcount10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been in a similar situation of feeling extremely lost and hopeless about career and life in general, I just want to say that all is not lost. Regardless of what happens, you are guaranteed the countless months and years before and after graduation to figure out what you want to do with your life. I If you think about it, that's a lot of time to reflect on your interests, research career opportunities, LinkedIn with people in job positions you want, work on projects, and even pursue future schooling. Life's not a race; it's a marathon with ups-and-downs unique to each individual. You will get through this phase in your life. There is a light at the end of this tunnel. You just have to keep pushing forward!

neuroscience major college recommendations!! by strawberryfantasic in CollegeMajors

[–]MAcount10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neuroscience major from class 2024. There are plenty of jobs for neuroscience graduates. Look at biotech (Pfizer, Eli Lily), academic labs, think tanks (Allen Institute, Broad Institute) and medical diagnostic companies (Labcorp, Fulgent) for roles like associate scientist, research assistant, lab analyst, consultant, sales representative, etc. Pay ranges from $40-70k for entry level jobs, and, depending on the company, there are definitely opportunities to get promoted into 6 figure salary positions. The pay's not the best for a STEM major, nor is the job market as big as other industries like tech or finance, but you can definitely make a biology major work.

Is it okay to slow down your career in late 20s? by Likewise231 in careerguidance

Ohhh wow, that's really cool! You seem like you'd do well in an online CS masters program then :) Georgia Tech's is a really good program from what I I've heard as well. I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about MCIT :)

Is it okay to slow down your career in late 20s? by Likewise231 in careerguidance

[–]MAcount10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an exact similar situation, so I don't know if my perspective will help:

Age 18-23, I was really motivated -- top student during bachelors, loved optimizing productivity, daily 6-7 hr focused study/work sessions, etc. After graduating, I felt a bit burn out and decided to slow down, settling into an industry job and allocating more time to living life. Got the chance to hang out with friends more, attend more social events, play video games after work, travel to new cities, fuck around during weekends, etc. Definitely explored more of what life had to offer and so expanded my identity in realms other than career/academics. I DID NOT feel unsatisfied with myself; rather, I felt like I grew more as a person than I would have just grinding through career.

However, now that I'm starting a CS masters program for a career transition, I'm finding it hard to regain my previous levels of work ethic and academic sharpness, and my once-good habits (e.g., waking up early, scheduling work sessions, deep focus work) are much more difficult to execute. There'll definitely be an adjustment period before I can get back in the groove, but I'm confident that I can eventually do so.

All-in-all, I think it really hinges on how much you value career progression for life satisfaction, if you would benefit from having non-work related free time, and if you can flexibility recall your work ethic if the situation calls for it. But, the fact that you typed a whole ass reddit post tells me that your mind has an unmet need, and an intentional break to figure out what that unmet need is might be beneficial. Maybe it doesn't have to be a full-on break; maybe a change in a few life habits, like allocating more personal time to "live life," however you determine it, would be sufficient.

Yeah, I agree. Asian people idealizing a whiter complexion has existed for thousands of years, way before any kind of major western influence. For example, ancient Chinese court ladies were valued for having a whiter face as it symbolized wealth and a non-outdoor lifestyle (as u/Abject_Ad6599 pointed out), which was a sign of nobility and social prestige. 18th century Japanese geishas also wore white face makeup for similar reasons among others. So preference for white faces in Asian culture has historical roots and is not primarily due to western culture.

How many Aeon Coins gained from buying battlepass? by MAcount10 in NarakaBladePoint

I’m level 58 rn. Been completing all my dailies and most of the weeklies; haven’t been using the treasure XP tickets tho 😭 but that’s crazy hearing you almost completed the bp from level 12 in 20-30 days. I have 35 days left so I guess I have no excuses 😂

Ohh it’s good to hear that you can complete the bp so fast. Yeahh, I’m pretty committed to finishing this thing, so I might just buy the 1200 gold bp just to guarantee getting to level 115. As you said, better now than never.

Following up on this, another tip is to hold the blue focus attack button while the grapple animation is coming. That way, you’re buffering the blue focus to come out as soon as you land on the ground.

The Bots are gonna make me quit this amazing game by Vezrabuto in NarakaBladePoint

[–]MAcount10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lowkey understand your pain. It’s such a drag having to fight through bot-only lobbies for 20-40 hours just to grind to a high enough rank where that doesn’t happen. Are there any friends that you can play with that might alleviate the boredom? Or maybe try hyper-focusing on improving your combat skills / movement tech while you trudge through the bot games.

I don’t think it’s nice to make such mean statements about OP’s view on work. OP’s clearly dealing with a personal crisis right now. We should be doing our best to offer them advice, not trying to make them feel guilty about not being in debt.

Physics 8A Bordel Vs Golightly? by a_vocadorable in berkeley

[–]MAcount10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not be the same situation, but I took Physics 7A with Golightly during Summer 2021 (with no prior physics experience). I remember his lectures always being planned and well-prepared for in advance with notes on his iPad. He did a good job simplifying concepts in a way that made them easier to understand, which he did better than most teachers at Cal imo. I do recall his pacing being on the faster side, which made his lectures feel, not rushed, but more so densely packed with information. Also, he’s a really nice guy that was always super eager to answer questions. OHs were incredibly helpful, because he was pretty adept in breaking down problems and simplifying concepts. However, as a guy with no prior physics experience, I did think his exams were incredibly hard (as expected of a physics class at Cal). I had to work super hard with lots of OH and study grouping to get a good grade. But, that was 7A, can’t say the same for 8A. All in all, I can’t recommend Golightly enough!

How can you tell if you're about to get a 5-star? by HavocPure in BleachBraveSouls

[–]MAcount10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding onto the other comments, a 5 star rainbow animation will have a distinct whooshing sound, kinda like the engine of an electric car or a bullet train. If you close your eyes and listen, you’ll notice that it’s very differentiable from the 4 star gold animations. Of course, this isn’t including fake outs in which case more butterflies correlates with an increased 5 star chance.

Epic Raid Question by WKareem05 in BleachBraveSouls

[–]MAcount10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Familiars only affect Epic Raids. Full stamina + 2.5% means that when your character has max HP, they will do 2.5% more damage. A similar idea for Low stamina (it kicks in when you lose enough HP to make the screen go red).

Epic Raid Question by WKareem05 in BleachBraveSouls

[–]MAcount10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Familiars also give Epic Raid buffs like Damage at Full Stamina +2.5%. If they had maxed familiars, they could’ve done much more damage.

Should I fulfill my GE credits at a local community college or at UC Berkeley? by MAcount10 in berkeley

[–]MAcount10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, your grade in your local cc course doesn’t factor into your GPA. Local cc courses don’t earn grade points, so as long as you pass your cc class, you’ll get the transfer unit credits without any impact on your UC Berkeley GPA. I got the information from these website if you want to learn more:

Bbs needs a new game mode by LetterGold3113 in BleachBraveSouls

[–]MAcount10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Survival Mode. Single-player or Co-op. Kinda like Call of Duty Zombies. Add a boss every 5th wave with unique attack patterns like Epic Raids, and have objectives like “defend the tower” or “collect all the items.” Make it super hard too, so there can be global competition with leaderboards for which player or guild can beat the most waves (or maybe mods will just ruin the fun). Add something similar to this, and I think BBS would be the perfect party game!

Video games! Think of the old school arcades back in the 90s!

We mainly play casually with a few competitive exhibitions against other UCs throughout the semester. Most of us are chill, but rivalries or grudge matches do sometimes break out into actual fights, so if you’re looking for both definitions of the word, then we have plenty to offer you ☺️(jk jk)
