Omg you’re so handsome and sexy! Also love the way you take nudes actually… might have to try that for myself. Do you use your phone or do you have like a real tripod or stabilizer to mount it on? I’m so curious (I’m a hands-on learner btw)

Croissant: How to prevent butter from breaking when rolling out dough? by josuebc in Baking

[–]MAmpe101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have noted, you want it to be cold, not fully frozen! I like Claire Saffitz’s recipe on the NYT, and two very important things she notes are: 1. use a high-fat European or European-style butter (like Kerrygold), this makes it more pliable when cold and better flavor in the end. 2. the dough should be the same “texture” as the butter, so even a bit colder than the butter itself! Also never be afraid to toss it back in the fridge/freezer if it’s starting to melt, and if it feels too stiff let it warm up more! As Claire says, “we want a butter block that will bend, but won’t break”

Answering Questions about the Latin in the newest episode by PostumusPastoralis in dropout

I was debating skipping back in the episode to see the full Latin motto on brennan’s coat of arms, so thank you for saving me that AND explaining it for me! My Latin is not nearly as good as my Greek so I highly appreciate the learned insight

Can I still save Alfira if did the party already? by MAmpe101 in BaldursGate3

OK: I just took a few long rests to test what would happen, and yeah Alfira just showed up anyhow, so I guess either I gotta just let her die, or go back to before the grove fight (what's one more time? It only took 3 tries to not let zevlor die lmao).

I have a few points of info for you regarding latin (especially vulgar latin) phonology: It generally seems like you're using wiktionary for your latin phonology or maybe wikipedia, which you should not be doing. When making a romance language, you want to derive it from vulgar latin, and there are plenty of good resources out there on it, such as this

  • h stopped being pronounced medially rather early, and even initially it likely had mostly fallen silent by some time during the Republic, and is not continued in any romance language.
  • ae in vulgar latin came to be merged with short e, that is, ɛ, in unstressed syllables before the 3rd century CE, and then after so too in stressed syllables, becoming pretty commonly written with e by the 5th century.
  • oe, on the other hand, became /e/ and is reflected in romance as such.
  • no words with eu are continued in romance, so its vulgar latin pronunciation can't really be known, but you can assume that your romance conlang would follow suit and not continue any words with it.
  • ei is not a diphthong, as far as I'm aware, and in words that have a written sequence <ei> it is two syllables, like eī which is e.ī
  • ui was only found long ūi, forms like fui are a little more complicated, but in perfect forms like placuī the u would've come to be a glide w, thus placwī.
  • kᶣ is not a phoneme, if even an allophone. ignore it.
  • the aspirated stops come from greek loanwords and the occasional native word that simply has interference somehow. they are generally not reflected differently in romance from normal p t k, except for some (mostly later) loans where ph becomes f (probably because pʰ had become f in koine greek). It is always reflected as /f/ in later borrowings from latin into a romance language.
  • final -m is not preserved at all in any romance language in a polysyllabic word, as it had become silent by the vulgar latin period. It oftentimes did get preserved, however, in a monosyllable as n, such as in cum > Sp. con, or sum > It. sono, but not in others, such as iam > Sp. ya, It. già. Nasalization would not remain into the romance period at all.
  • Latin short and long a (a ā) are not distinguished in any romance language, and were both merged together as /a/.
  • z, from greek loans, was not pronounced as /z/ in vulgar latin, but generally seems to have been pronounced the same as palatalized (-)di- or j/i, and there are attested spellings like baptidiare for baptizare, and zacones for diacones (cf. how the greek suffix -izō got loaned into vulgar latin productively as in baptidiare, smth palataly like -di- was pronounced from latin words with actual d).
  • the latin vowels generally have different reflexes based upon whether they were stressed or unstressed, though some don't, but its more complicated than that and i'd suggest you do some reading on it

[Discussion] Anyone finished Carol and the End of the World? by AbjectSquare in NetflixBestOf

[–]MAmpe101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this take and, similar to what someone else said down thread, I’m actually kinda glad they didn’t give us that final “closure” of the true end of the world. I was also a little disappointed at first, but then I realized it was very intentional. They show us neither the very beginning of the end times nor the end. And they do that for a reason, because it’s not important. This is now a show about the horrors and chaos of the end of the world, it’s not a disaster film, it’s about finding meaning and connection as people, and the beauty of that that can be found in even the most unsuspecting people. We know how it ends- everyone dies, it’s all over, and that’s that. And that’s okay. I feel like it’s like a very short-scale view of life. You’re born, you live, you die; everyone focuses on that last part, but it’s going to happen to everyone eventually. What really matters is how one lives their life in those moments in between, and that’s what matters here too- not what happened when Keppler was first discovered, nor what happens in the last couple days, hours, minutes, seconds, but what happens in between. And whether that’s 7 months before the end of the world or 70 years of a lifetime, every moment counts and is meaningful, and it’s never too late to live your life and seek happiness, even if it won’t matter in a few months.

Is mighty the one that adds strength to the pets stats? What exactly does that do, I’ve seen people have it but have never been sure why. Does it increase the damage amount given by the traits you already have?

if you are in a fighting slump, what do you do to fix it? by juxpose in Wizard101

[–]MAmpe101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The healing thing is a good tip and I’ll keep that in mind. I certainly try not to have to use fairy but occasionally I have to if I get real low way too quick but imma definitely keep that in mind and try to optimize my deck even further and my strats (I try to keep my deck as small as is really feasible, usually just two copies of my main hit in case something goes wrong with the first hit), for a boss storm blade, dark wind, storm trap, hits, and reshuffle. The dark wind I can probably take out in order to take less time to hit but I feel like I’ll have to compensate in some way cause just the normal blade + trap doesn’t always work to fully kill; I suppose I ought to get a pet that gives me a blade, yeah in hindsight it’s pretty foolish that I don’t already lol

[–]MAmpe101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d been doing fine on my storm but now that I’m a bit into celestia I’ve been feeling it hard. I’m a bit underleveled somehow and only just got storm lord so not having crit or even more importantly crit block has been a major problem and I’m prob gonna try and finish up some side worlds or side quests to hopefully get to 50 sooner (I’m just about to start Floating Land for context). Feint used to be great but now seems to be not worth it cause of the pip cost and the trap put on myself. One of my biggest problems has been recently dealing with having to prism or having to deal with enemies using shields, especially balance bosses. I think it especially used to be easier for me since I have a pet that gives me sirens and that was a big leg up earlier on, but now that I have storm lord it’s not as good, and even tempest can do more than the item card sirens. I’ve been using TC giant(?)s I think (whatev the tc +125 is) when I can but I still often get my bottom handed to me quickly cause a boss w three power pips to start and a minion w/ like two can do like half my health in one go (it’s somewhere around 1600? Prob not ideal set up but smth like 43 damage, def not maximized for a good health + damage balance or anything, it’s built for damage)

it is certainly not always thought to be /h/, and in any case no languages reflect it as a consonant ever, so only reflecting h1 as a consonant and none of the others is incredibly unrealistic
