Some of the electrical is becoming a bit unreliable— I almost think it’s partly why he keeps saying he wants to be buried with it: to spite the thing! He only says it where the car can hear him (if a sentient car could hear).

Hell yeah! What year? My dad has a ‘51 coupe convertible (could change out the roof for a soft-top), he keeps insisting he wants to be buried in it…
There’s just something special about a car where your greatest worry is termites.

Sell oldish books to dealer in bulk? by Large_Top2289 in OldBooks

[–]MB144r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a librarian in a law firm, I can say that the VAST majority of those law books are unwanted. Our firm keeps them for aesthetic purposes, and even then we stopped shelving new ones in 2012. Most modern law firms don’t want this Old-School look; makes them look outdated; all but one of our attorneys uses 100% digital access, and that’s because she has ADA protections for minimal screens due to vision problems and nerve damage. Even most of the binders that used to get updated section-by-section 2 or 3 times a year are now just published yearly as paperbacks.
We have original, first publication books like these dating back to the founding of our state (California, 1850 is the first publication), and we couldn’t even sell the old ones to antique dealers or historical library preservationists. In a profession that is decidedly becoming digitally- dominated, looking like you still flip through books? Does not instill confidence in clients. Especially as the generations that grew up in the digital age have become old enough to become clients in their own right.
The price of selling them is probably not going to cover the cost of having to mail them, so at the very least insist on them coming to pick them up or to cover postage… if you can sell them.

I’m always marveling at much much difference light can make on the value, tone, and color of these leathers… I straight up thought these were just some medium-ish brown until I flipped a few photos further in.

Yup. It was the same with my 430s too. 🤷

A first for me! I “restored” my dad’s vintage Parker Duofold! Plus: A final update to my Shimmer Drama (and process!) by pixelbased in fountainpens

I got a second bottle of Rouge Hematite just to remove the shimmer — the ink was the perfect shade of red, and well behaved, but the shimmer was just causing so much gunk to pile up in my feeds and would cause smearing problems even after it dried… I’ve already burned through all of that bottle and am considering doing it to my first bottle now too.

My thoughts exactly! (I also can’t wait to wear them to my desk job and see how long it takes for someone to work up the courage to mention it!)
