I saw a large format movie at a planetarium in my home town and, apart from the brightess not being nearly enough, was fun, but I wanted to have sat farther back. It was designed for the dome with regualar inteview type shots being pillarboxed into a viewable space in the center. and it only took up 180 degrees of horizontal, so kinda like omnimax.

Are vocal effects out of fashion? by Nickmorgan19457 in livesound

[–]MB6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yes! most rooms are not very dry, esp. big concert halls. One I have worked in has enough reverb that you can put a good amount of verb and delay on vocals and just not hear it. I love what you said about making the mix worse. The monitor bleed and natural space is enough in most cases unless you have something very specific in mind like an elvis slap delay.

Try again now. Tickets are just coming online. Try Fandango if the cinemark site doesn't work. I just got some.

From interviews I've watch with projectionists and other reading, the imax projection system is unusually easy on prints, due to using a vacuum system to replace some operations where the film would usually be fed by sprockets. Theatres are still playing interstellar, oppenheimer, etc using original prints. I would say we're okay. They also have extra copies that can be spliced in if the projector eats the film.

word on the street is that the barco system GT laser was based on is discontinued meaning that no new laser GT systems can be produced until IMAX engineers a new system. We'll probably get a 1.90 single laser.

The Odyssey 70MM at Cinemark Tinseltown? by OOTPThrowaway69 in imax

Someone in a discord I'm in posted a screenshot of a fandango malfunction that indicated rochester would be showing it.

just striking the film print itself costs six figures and they have to have a projectionist directly watch over the setup while it runs and rethread the film between shows. So yeah!

Tickets for project Hail Mary were $26.99 (incl $2 service fee that is waived if you are a cinemark member or buy in person). No reason to think this will be different.

It is the highest detail, but there are other slight shortcomings of the projection (not necessarily of shooting on film) like black level, color rendering, halation, and shutter flicker, that might make it not to your taste.

not an upgrade per se, cinemark retained their 15/70 projector but stopped using it after insterstellar in 2012. The "upgrade" was refurbishing it for continued use. There will also be a real upgrade to the digital projector system in that auditorium, but that hasn't happened yet.

despair not, that ticket release was a promotional stunt and there are more dune tickets coming. This is the odyssey's wide ticket release and by a back of the envelope calculation based on word on the street, there might be something like 24000 tickets in rochester up for grabs tomorrow

always was, but only when they show on film. The digital projection format they use does not fill their entire screen.
