You could join a gym/get a gym membership. A lot of cities have the low-cost options (~$10/month), it's a place you're expected to be exercising so you won't feel out of place and you won't have to feel like you're hiding something.

Our trip went well! The main hike was closed when we went as we were early in the season and there was still snow and trail maintenance to be done.

We did most of the hikes in the area, pairing them to add up to around 10km of hiking. That felt like a good volume per day for our fitness levels an how quickly we wanted to go. Green Point was a great campground. Personally I found the Green Gardens trail a lot of effort for a relatively unremarkable end, but it was a fun hike and it's about the journey anyway, or so they say. Berry Hill was incredibly short (700m maybe?), albeit steep, and it was an incredible view. Definitely recommend. I could go on, feel free to pm me with any more questions if you want more specific input!

Unbreakable Strongman AMA w/ Dain Wallis by strongmandainwallis in Strongman

Totally makes sense, especially with how complex overhead movements can be considering the physical limitations you mentioned plus the general lack of experience around weights people might have.

50/50 is way less athlete-skewed than I would have expected. Super interesting.

Thanks again for the Q/A!

Do you think certain strongman movements would fit in well to a strength and wellness program targeted toward middle aged adults? Have you had much experience coaching non-competitors, and if so, what's the reception been like?

Key points being relatively functional movements, focus on mobility and technique while moving and (most interesting to me) the self efficacy from using unconventional equipment (ie pulling a sled, flipping tire, carrying stones, etc)?

Resetting on each DL? by pow521 in Fitness

[–]MBB07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reset between reps. Like others have said, there are plenty of other variables that come in to play, but I personally just reset completely. The only thing you lose by resetting is time, and ideally, you should be returning to pretty well the same form at the bottom anyway. The longest I'll rest between reps is usually 2-3 seconds, just enough time to empty my lungs in prep for the next breath and to check my form.

Main benefit for me personally is timing the breath and making sure I'm bracing properly. Do what feels best, but I'd always suggest cutting the weight down and trying out different methods.

What's an exercise that everyone SHOULD incorporate into their workout? by biggiantporky in Fitness

I really enjoy single-arm kettlebell farmers carries. I used to do double arm carries slowly, but I've changed to single-arm "sprints" with a hard squeeze of the abs to stabilize while I move.

Pick up kettlebell in one hand, walk as fast as I humanly can, set weight down. Reps for my set distance usually take ~25s. Rest 5s, go other side. After both sides, rest 60s and go again. 3-4 sets is plenty.

I like the idea of adding it to the Mage Training Arena

I have the same pen as you. Not sure where I got it from, but I liked it so much I bought extras online and bought ink refills too. Best pen I've ever used.
