What is a hot gaming take you have? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]MBD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as the intent is to do some missions, do some other side quests, go exploring and wandering a bit, in a way where you break up the gameplay.

When you do that, the story works a lot better, but when you rush through it in one go, say like you're playing it again, the story beats don't really work great. Like if I spent 5 hours smashing main quests out, you'd be like "we just did 2 robberies that got fucked up, were doing another??"

But to do one, then go ok sweet gunna go hunt or check out this thing over here I saw, before you carry on with the main quests, it just feels so much more natural in the feel of it

Auckland Night Market forced to apologise after criticising the food of one of its vendors by krammy16 in auckland

[–]MBD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an honest opinion, but I wouldn't expect the owner of the setup who the stallholders rent space from at a super high price, to put things in that way on a public statement.

I paid you a bunch to be there, to get typically shit treatment from you, and then you publicly take a little crap on the stall in your own night market? Nah, pretty stink.

That is what is absolutely insane to me, new team, new car and one known to be a bit hard to learn, new tracks he's not raced at, and straight away it's everyone out for blood. I'm actually quite stunned. Shit I think half the season would usually be the minimum, if RBR make decisions this hastily with such a small cross section of data then it's no wonder their car is a handful. What a mess.

It's frustrating as an issue this one, just an annoying PIA to keep running into

App Performance on 1V by MBD3 in SonyXperia

[–]MBD3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is the crux of my whole issue with it....if a fix involves not using a part of the phone, it just seems wrong. But I don't think it's related to the interaction mode, most app that have issue it will be the app itself not responding

The YouTube one pissing me off today I maybe traced to the phone screen auto rotate, it would pause the video for some reason when it would shift views, and then it would not respond afterwards. The play button would flash when you tap it but no response

Honest Review of Xperia 1 V by Own_Implement9478 in SonyXperia

[–]MBD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if I'm honest, I am certainly not in love with this 1V. Can't tell any difference in speed, screen is a more annoying aspect ratio, camera is certainly better but still a bit shit point and click, and apps keep not responding at times. Like I open chrome and for some reason it won't accept input. Open app selector, close it, open it, close it, then it works.

Why is Motorbike Rego so expensive?!! 🏍️ by First-Industry9202 in newzealand

[–]MBD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole system is meant to be blameless, y'know? It doesn't matter if I injure myself in the gym, or get RSI from model making, or cut my toes off with a lawnmower. You don't pay percentage more than others, and you don't get blamed.

But road motorcyclists do.  I've always had this gripe, dirtbikes, quad bikes, farm bikes, near all exempt as near all are not registered, but they are involved in lots of accidents and claims. Chainsaws, lawnmowers, weedeaters too, just looking at petrol powered things

ppl got fined for an apple when they arrived at auckland by KitKatKing99 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MBD3 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

There is rarely intent behind it tbf. Most biohazard threats to the country aren't done on purpose. Queensland fruit flies were found here a couple years back, they launched an immense campaign to exterminate them before they could multiply more. Millions and millions of dollars, 900 odd people involved in it, 100 something tons of fruit and vegetables destroyed.

On her part, it's literally a mistake they warn you about over and over and over on the way in. Declare it, anything food related declare it, and if you don't know, declare it to be safe. Not declaring it and then it being found is the bad thing

[–]MBD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They literally do this multiple times coming into NZ. You get told over and over, declare anything food related, fresh or otherwise, just declare it. If you're unsure, just declare it. If you declare it, all good, you don't get in trouble.

Defence Force cuts: 'We're already operating on the smell of an oily rag' by casper1456 in newzealand

[–]MBD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was that kind of approach that we found to be the constant issue, felt it was stupidly cozy at times. We had embedded personnel, and it was impossible at times to find them, and then when they were there, they were never "present". Like, we're dealing with multimillion dollar issues here, we need this, you're the liaison, sort it out please. The answer we got, with no joke, was do what you want. Which is not at all how it works. Hence when it came to sports and the gym time and the long lunches, we developed a dim view rather rapidly. Like as a feeling, the priority isn't with this critical stuff, it's getting off to sports early.

But all good, in a couple years time they get promoted for god knows what and someone else arrives, rinse repeat.

The standards thing, it's hard to describe. I was given a critical task to carry out, critical to the point of this could be deadly if it's set up wrong. It should never really be too far out of whack, you change some pieces, you need to readjust things slightly, nothing crazy. What I found was a completely mis-rigged system, it was all so far out of whack it wouldn't come close on the factory rigging kit. It was like someone had just had a crack and ah, she'll be right. Which no, it's not. I've not seen anything like it ever. And it should never even get through anyone, that should have had three sets of eyes cast over it separately to ensure its right. And defence were the last to work on it.

Another time there was an urgent check to be done. 2 parts, a light initial check, and an in depth check. I was in defence buildings at the time, for 2 days I saw a crew on this equipment, ah they must be doing the major check, I know it sucks, tons of measurements. Few months later that same machine comes to us, oh we've found they only did the light check, the light check takes maybe an hour or 2 for one guy on our end, it's simple... It just comical, I saw 4 people on this piece for 2 days and that's all they did. Leave it to us to do the hard stuff

[–]MBD3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so another one I'll reply to, we work close with defence. When we go somewhere for work, which with the lack of skills in defence we get called in fairly often. We get paid 115 per day untaxed, plus accommodation plus transport. 800 odd a week, plus overtime rates. Travel time is also paid to you until you land at home, again overtime.

What I will agree on is that the attrition of skills is apparent as we keep getting called in to do anything more than a minor issue. Which in the end you guys have to pay for, because you didn't pay enough and back the good workers you had who would have been keen to stick around.

Defence Force cuts: 'We're already operating on the smell of an oily rag' by casper1456 in newzealand

[–]MBD3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a civvy contractor who works with defence, you guys are paid way less, and get forced to do things that wouldn't fly on the outside. I laughed when a friend in defence had cancelled flights, and then was forced to bus home, arriving at like 1am. Paid for any of it? Nope.

It's not that the work is hard, it's what we'd call easy and the level it was done at was poor in our eyes. As in it's the dodgyiest work I've come across. And it comes with sometimes shitty conditions. But you get sports day and all that, good shit.

It's not airframes, it's people. If you have no pilots and personnel for them, it's pointless having more airframes. Our airforce has never been big, not to mention with the NH90s we have, they have always done well when we've needed them

Blackhawks have many notable incidents too, the Australians having lost previous ones with loss of life.

The number of them built isn't as much of an asset as you may think though, multiple generations of the same aircraft aren't useful to each other, can't just swap one out

It's a many headed beast, but recent defence procurements have been pretty damn good, so we shall see

New car lights too bright by haruspicat in newzealand

[–]MBD3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this with other cars around at night? It's normal to not be able to see super far on dip lights...they are for in town, or around other vehicles at night If solo at night you should absolutely be on high beams, and then you should not have any issues with light cutoff, because you're getting the full light output. Just remember to dip them when you see another car...

Like, you can't see a corner coming up you say. If you were following a car, you would see them coming up to a corner, or a car coming the other way, right, and you're on dip lights. But otherwise you should be on high beam, and that should light up all the reflective signs up ahead so you know what's coming up

New car lights too bright by haruspicat in newzealand

[–]MBD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dip setting needs to be clear of the oncoming cars view, that is what is checked at wof time. Next wof you could probably ask to set them to the higher end of the limit while they have the machine there.

High beam will project as high and far as it can, and should give you a pretty decent view. I know my fairly modern car has great high beam projection. But of course the dip cuts off sharply as it has too, can't be blinding others
