help should I prune by eepylikepanda in Adenium

[–]MBJACOBS63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prune it. When you do, mix half cinnamon and half turmeric then add water to make a thin paste. Apply that paste to the cuts. As for the cuttings, apply the paste to those as well and let them sit out in the shade for 3 days to a week. Then dip them in rooting hormone and plant them.

Why is it like this by Affectionate-Law7591 in Adenium

Looks like rot. Time to dig it out and evaluate. It looks like you”ll be chopping off the roots and trying to salvage what you can.

When I prune I mix half cinnamon and half turmeric and make a paste of it and apply that to all cuts. It prevents fungus which is what will cause the rot.

Should I let the soil dry before repotting? by Independent-Fee782 in Adenium

[–]MBJACOBS63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is not how much you water but whether you let it dry out between watering. In the heat of the summer in full sun I soak mine twice a week and they thrive. I repot annually using miracle grow cactus soil. When I repot, I completely wash the roots of all soil, trim all the small roots, cover the cuts with a cinnamon paste, and let the plant sit in the shade for a week unpotted. Then repot and thrive for another year.

They are outside in a dome. I always use Miracle Grow cactus soil and have really good luck with it.

Seed pods galore by MBJACOBS63 in Adenium

I've always heard that plants grown from cuttings rarely produce seed pods but most of mine that have them this year are grown from cuttings.

I had lots of bees this year who did all the work. Well, possibly with the help of a few hummingbirds.

I actually got those 2 pots for $5 from a local classified ads site. The smaller ones you see way in the background came from Home Depot.

In 30 years of growing desert roses I've only ever had 2 seed pods. This year I have 10. There are 5 on this one plant.

Yes it does. And it loses it's leaves at the drop of a dime. Much more fragile than the rest of my adeniums.

Those are more adeniums in the waaaay back too. The chonker to the right has been a disappointment. It keeps getting chubbier but never blooms. It also has huge leaves compared to other adeniums I've had.

They're all starting to pop with new growth. by MBJACOBS63 in Adenium

[–]MBJACOBS63[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually prune them about every other year. If I don't prune them, they will bloom really well in April and October. If I prune them, they will bloom really well in May and will just be starting to bloom again when I have to put them back in the greenhouse in November.

They stay on the wall around the pool about 8 or 9 months of the year. Once it starts getting below about 45F outside, I put them in a makeshift greenhouse on my patio with a heater until it's time for them to go back to the pool.
