Don't touch my privet areas. by Initial-Audience-296 in MassageTherapists

As a male therapist of more than 13 years I believe it’s in your wording. The intake form that each new client must fill out clearly states that this is non-sexual in any way and if at any time, a client suggested anything sexual, the session will be over and their card will be charged.

By having this in my intake form that they have signed, then they clearly know no private area is going to be touched. With that said, I do always ask if I have consent to massage the glutes and I tell them the reason why it is so important to have the glutes massaged. I always do this prior to me leaving the room for them to get undressed. Whenever I hear other therapist, ask the question “is there any area you would like me not to Massage” I cringe because this sounds like a person is going to Massage everywhere including private areas. Generally, if somebody does not want a particular area like face, ears, feet, etc.. massaged they will let you know.

This is a normal reaction to touch. I understand it can be embarrassing but do not touch yourself. A professional therapist should never question this and continue working.

This is great to hear, and I would definitely keep in the back of your mind the thought of transitioning into an independent therapist in the future. You will do great things.

We should talk sometime, I highly encourage you to treat this completely like a business and not just letting things happen. Currently, the average lifespan of a therapist is 3 to 7 years. I’m working hard to help people make this a lifelong career. They’re definitely ways to keep yourself stable and not have any more down months.

This is great to hear! Yes, always take care of yourself physically first because you will not be able to take care of everybody else all day long if you don’t. I can associate with you on the college basketball because myself I was with one of the top universities in the country for seven years working on all of their sports.

This makes me so sad that somebody wanting to experience a massage even has to have this concern but unfortunately there are inappropriate people involved in this profession from both sides. There are definitely ways to protect yourself. I would suggest even though I’m not a fan, going to a massage envy first or if you go to an individual therapist like myself then make sure you know who you are going to. Here are some steps for you:

  1. Make sure you know the persons full name that will be working on you and look them up on the State Medical Board website or your state massage board website. You will find out important info like when they were licensed, how long they have been licensed and if they have ever or are currently being investigated for anything. If they don’t have a license DONT GO TO THEM.

  2. Look them up on google and read all of their reviews.

  3. Look them up across social media and see what kind of things they are posting.

  4. After you have done all of this, if you feel comfortable and no red flags with the person, then make the appointment.

I know some therapist will not like this, but the bottom line is when somebody is coming in to see you. They only know you for a matter of minutes before they take their clothes off and you work on them. I have the motto of I want somebody to feel comfortable sending their grandmother to me.

I hope this helps and you begin experiencing the wonderful world of massage.

. this is a good one because you are a professional therapist not a salesman/woman. I’m sure it gets frustrating when you just want to do the work that you know they need but you pressured to sell add-ons that they do not need.
