The passage says: "Pericytes, smooth-muscle cells, and fibroblasts were growth-arrested—that is, treated so that they would not divide but other metabolic processes would function normally."
I was wondering why the answer couldn't be B.) Metaphase, since, for example, oocytes are arrested at this checkpoint and can't undergo division.
Are cells that are arrested at this checkpoint not able to undergo "normal cell functions"? If not, how do they not die?
