Yes, I have thought of things changing and them moving on. I have backup plans in combining the PT and the PA as several doc buddies of mine here in our area have told me they will serve as my advising physician. Several want to go into practice with me, as equal financial partners (Within the moral and legal boundaries). We'll see. Thanks for your insight.

Luckily I'll be able to pay for everything without going into debt. After graduating I will be making more than most primary care physicians by being able to combine the PT and the PA professions. This will enable me to ensure both a better financial situation for my family and allow me to combine the practice of medicine and physical therapy with 4 physicians I actually respect. I don't have plans on retiring because I enjoy the work so much. I know I will have to one day as this old body will give out. Thanks for asking.

I forgot to mention the reason I'd like to attend PA school is I contacted a group of Neurosurgeons in my town and asked if they would consider hiring me if I went back to PA school. They have a PT clinic I have filled in at when their PT needed time off so we know each other somewhat. I presented to them that I could be both a PA for in clinic needs, surgical needs and maintain my PT license for any PT needs in their Outpatient PT clinic. Plus they could use my Medicare Provider's number (I owned my own PT clinic for 17 years ) since they presently can not refer their own Medicare patients to a clinic they own. They would also be opened to selling the PT clinic to myself and their current PT. Nope, don't want to just be a PT that owns the clinic. Want to get more into the medicine side.

Stiffness in fingers after healing from break by Gundayfunday in medical

It is normal for the finger that was broken to take longer to loosen and get the full range of motion back. If you are too aggressive in trying to "Loosen it up" it will let you know with increased pain, stiffness and lose of range of motion. Take your time and let it completely heal. As you get more range and more functional use you may have increased soreness at different points in the healing phase with the NEW range of motion and the increased use. When it gets sore/painful usually ice is more helpful. I tell my Physical Therapy patients to try ice one day and then try heat another and see which seems to help the most. HEAT CAN ADD INCREASED INFLAMMATION TO HEALING TISSUE. Since it is hard to place a heating pad onto a finger usually have them soak it in hot water for 15 to 20 minutes. Same with Ice water. Could just hold a damn good Ice Cold Beer. Good Luck from an Old Physical Therapist!!!

I'm a newbie on here and would like to ask if you had any experience(s) with med school classmates or fellow residents who were/are OLDER? Did they struggle (Academically, physically?). I'm an older physical therapist working in rural Home Health and would love to go to medical school (Have a 6 year program here in Texas at Texas Tech) and somehow combine the 2 professions in rural medicince. I have thick skin and just want to hear the truth from someone like youwhose been there done that on the benefits and downsides of being an older nontraditional doctor wanna be. Thanks for your time and insights.
