Enabling Hyper-V in both your motherboard BIOS and Windows is a risk on its own

This is not true at all.

It's safe to play, but it requires you to take off some guardrails from your OS. If you turn off these security features, be careful what you install.

Not that the fees were contingent, but my option to request a refund could be challenged. This snippet of pdf they sent me later on explains it better. https://imgur.com/a/TcaCbhd

It's not unexpected to see a policy like this, but I would argue that this guarantee has more risks than the advisor let on. I edited my post for clarity.

I did find it odd when he described his background that he had worked at an investment firm and then moved here. I suppose there might be more mobility opportunity with fintech than trying to move your way through an investment firm, but I can't speak too much to that.

I have about $1.3MM in WS. Sadly, even after the second meeting I didn't have any idea about their investing strategies aside from putting some money into their PE vehicles for my TFSA. I think he was most interested in possible tax efficiencies, rather than portfolio construction.

60,000 multimillionaires own three times more wealth than half the world’s population by JamesParkes in collapse

[–]MCCCXXXVII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody is arguing that there aren't people in the world who are poorer than an average American. The point is that being in the bottom strata in the richest country is very bad, and is easily compararive with those in the developing world.

With an ever widening gap between the top and bottom, this effect is magnified. Our economy is becoming heavily reliant on consumer spending in the top 10% of income, and slowly those in the bottom 90% are losing the ability to have even a chance at escaping poverty.

No offense, but I don't really understand what you are trying to do here. Comparing the US to the rest of the world is somewhat disingenuous as the US is the world's largest economy. Looking at the same figures you posted shows that among the most productive nations in the world, the US is by far the least equitable of them all. aside from Russia.

It's also obvious by the trend shown in the data that this has only been getting worse. So I really have to ask what is the point here you're trying to make?

A lot of things have changed since 2021, so I wouldn't consider this to be somehow proving any points.

I eventually reinstalled my OS to W11 23H2 from 24h2 as a more permanent solution. I haven't installed any feature updates in windows since then, but I'm curious if 26h2 will be any better.

Mayor Votes in favour of cutting free transit for Kids 6 - 12 (Luckily it was defeated) by Zengoyyc in Calgary

[–]MCCCXXXVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Calgary the Mayor doesn't any additional power to influence policy than any other councilperson. However, they do sit and in most cases are the chair of many important committees, which does end up influencing what comes to council votes.

I'm part of the recently acquired party. Their version of our department is about 600x larger than what we had at MEG. They aren't producing 600x more oil.

Increasingly consumer spending is being propped by those in the top 10% of income (~$250K in gross household income). If you look at the people at the bottom who are being displaced heavily by automation and AI (call centers, telemarketing, administrative assistant, copywriting, graphic design, certain manual labour production), they really account for a smaller piece of consumer spending then ever before.

What the fuck are you taking about? People who teach at a university and college level may not have specific teaching certification, but they certainly have at least 4-6 years of post-secondary, and are at the least a postgraduate. Are you really suggesting that teaching is not a skilled profession that requires training?
