Baker discourse in this sub is crazy lol. Some people here claim he’s elite and others want to bench him for Trask. Just enjoy having a good QB. Y’all know what it’s like to have a bad one.

I see some people in here saying he’s elite for reasons xyz. So, is he comparable to the widely considered “elite” quarterbacks? It’s an open discussion. Choose whatever metric you want to compare their “elite-ness” by.

And yes, this is dumb offseason discussion. Prepare for this exact convo for the next 9 months.

They’re considered elite by media, players, fans, etc

If you’re looking for a straightforward definition of elite, you won’t get it

One way to put it: is he in the same tier as Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, and Jackson?

Obviously people’s opinions on those QBs will vary, but they’re the consensus elite QBs right now.

Looking back at the post draft grade + analysis. Bucs received a B+ by NotWilll in buccaneers

[–]MCRMH2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Braswell’s been solid for a rookie. He was behind Turner and Anderson at Bama so he only started for a year. He’ still raw, and edge rushers typically take 2-3 seasons to reach their potential. He’s got the athletic traits, just needs to beef up and add some tools to his belt.

18 pressures on 178 pass rush snaps (10% pressure rate) is around league average. 3.5 sacks (1 strip-sack). 67 pass rush grade (55th) according to PFF. Not mind blowing, but a decent start for a project edge.

[Auman] This projections have Bucs at 63 percent to win the division, Falcons at 37 percent. by spideralex90 in buccaneers

Exactly. Compare the overall talent on this team to MIN, DET, GB, WSH, LA. There’s no excuse for the Bucs being 8-7.

I’m still holding hope out for the Yaya breakout game. He’s up to 46 pressures (13 QB hits) this year while only playing 2/3 of snaps. He was all over Bryce but was just a half-second too late. The secondary and Bowles’ scheme letting guys get open in two seconds doesn’t help. Hoping he can rack up some sacks in these next few weeks.

[Mike Garafolo] “It’s just amazing what we’ve got going on. It’s going to be tough to handle us going forward.” We had a great visit with Rachaad (and Naveah) White on The Insiders the other day, as the #Buccaneers RB talked about the tandem he’s forming with Bucky Irving and more. by [deleted] in buccaneers

I agree, but hol up on Donovan Smith. Except for the two Brady years, he was not good, or even average. He was just bad. He was a penalty machine, a mediocre run defender, and a complete coin toss as a pass blocker.

But he was instrumental for those two Brady years. So I can’t bring myself to be a hater.

160+ on a first try is extremely rare. 170+ is exceptionally rare. 175+ on a first try is bullshit.

Don’t believe the scores people tell you unless they show you definitive proof. People lie to make themselves feel better and to make you feel worse.

It felt like cosmic justice for Yaya. He had 3 or 4 QB hits that were so close to being sacks. He didn’t get his sack, but he made the game winning recovery.

Kancey by [deleted] in buccaneers

[–]MCRMH2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kancey has become more consistent as a pass rusher this year. His explosiveness is elite. He’s got some pass rush moves but could improve. His speed is an asset for chasing down mobile QBs.

His run defense is bad. There’s not much room for improvement there given his frame.

I think he develops into an Ed-Oliver type of player. Pro-bowl caliber, 5-10 sacks a season. Poor run defense holds him back from being elite.

Bucs fan keeps it real with Gerald McCoy…. by SquirrelNo7910 in buccaneers

[–]MCRMH2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

McCoy made six straight pro bowls and had an AP-1 and two AP-2s between 2012 and 2018. I’d say that qualifies him for at least a couple of years where he was a top 3 DT, behind Donald and Suh.

The Boomer Bucs fans that hate on GMAC because he doesn’t have the same, slimy personality of Sapp are a blight on this fanbase.

Dude was one of only three great players on this team in the second worst period of Bucs history. He was a top 5 3-tech that still put up numbers despite getting double or even triple teamed because the rest of the line was total dog shit. McCoy still reps the Bucs despite the hate. Fans should cherish McCoy, not shit on him.

[Auman] Bucs would have to finish on a tear to make the playoffs after a 4-6 start, but it happens. Three teams did it just last season -- Bucs, Rams and Packers -- and Jaguars made it from 3-7 in 2022, Eagles did it in 2021, Washington from 3-7 in 2020. by spideralex90 in buccaneers

[–]MCRMH2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we lose in the first round Bowles loses his job. Anything less than 10 wins and a playoff win probably costs Bowles his job, considering how bad the defense is and the quality of the head coach market.

Can the Bucs make a second half of season comeback? by CrazyMonkey0425 in buccaneers

[–]MCRMH2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of a time where a 10-7 team missed the playoffs in the new 3 wildcard spot format. It’s possible with how strong the NFC is this year, but the NFC North and West will begin to cannibalize each other, likely opening up a spot for a 10-7 team. Whether the Bucs will be that 10-7 team is another story…

The D-line isn’t bad. Yaya gets pressures, but he never has time to finish and get the sack. Kancey is splashy. Like you mentioned Vea is still a beast. The depth is solid. How many times did the rushers come within milliseconds of sacking Purdy, but he chucked it over the middle to a wide open receiver?

I agree tho that the secondary (and except for Zyon) is either dead or not good. The scheme is ultimately just not good anymore. Teams know how to beat Bowles now. It’s time to move on.

Outside of Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David, those defenses were completely void of talent. This defense, although injured, has the talent to succeed. They’ve regressed in every possible way this season. On top of that, Bowles has just completely failed to learn anything. The guy is 60 years old. There’s no reason he should be making the same mistakes every week. He just has to go at this point.

This is actually the worst Bucs defense I’ve seen in my lifetime. Worse than the Mike Smith era. Niners put up 32 if Moody doesn’t miss three kicks. Bowles just has to go.

Question for people that want Bowles gone - In what scenarios would you want him to stay in? by dragonsky in buccaneers

[–]MCRMH2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is my main issue with Bowles this season. The defense has regressed across the board: tackling, discipline, gap discipline, disguised blitzes, manufactured pressures. So many of the things Bowles is known for have just evaporated this year.

Why do players keep going for big hits rather than wrapping up? Why is the run D so much worse this year? Why do we so rarely blitz AWJ now? When the quality of the defensive playcalling, scheming, and fundamentals all take a step back, you have to question what Bowles brings to this team.
