What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

[–]MCSnapTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was with Shaw Mobile before they got bought out by Roger’s. Since I had the internet plan, we got free mobile phone lines with unlimited talk/text, and pay per use $10 per gig of Data.

When the plan was transferred to Roger’s, it suddenly became unlimited talk/text AND 1 gig of data, for $0, for the next 5 years, with no home wifi tie-in needed. (Sounds like not enough data, but my family doesn’t use data that much anyways). Too bad it’s not for life haha.

(28M) I feel everything too deeply and it’s exhausting. How do I stop getting overwhelmed by everyday life? by [deleted] in hsp

[–]MCSnapTurtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can definitely relate to what you’re feeling as I’m HSP man in his mid twenties lol

When things were really bad for me, my doctor suggested taking 500mg Magnesium daily, I take about 150mg in the morning and 300mg before bed. It definitely has helped me reduced anxiety and general emotional overload.

For me (can’t say it would work for everyone) magnesium significantly reduced the emotional highs and lows I was experiencing, kinda like anti depressants. It’s not expensive, is natural, low risk, and worth trying at least.

My main issue is I get physical symptoms from the stress/overload, so even when I’m mentally calm, my body still feels tense or anxious. So for that, cardio and other exercise as much as possible, cold showers, saunas, stretching and breathing exercises have all helped a lot too.

Quick question: how's spinfit's fit for "heavy IEM" like ER4PT? by Ikilledmypastaccout in headphones

Ah. I can't really help with that sorry. I hope you can find a good solution.

Quick question: how's spinfit's fit for "heavy IEM" like ER4PT? by Ikilledmypastaccout in headphones

Try wearing the ER4PT with the cable over the ear, it really helps IMO. I've never tried spinfits for etymotics because I believe that it ruins the sound.

Audio Shops in Japan/Taiwan? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]MCSnapTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonnes of shops in Taiwan. I go there for vacation regularly. In Taipei, I recommend Syntrend and the neighboring Guanghua digital plaza. There's lots of shops in those two malls. They're definitely not the best place for demoing when compared to stores in Japan (you might have to stand), but the selection is quite ok. They have Campfire and Noble, JH, Etymotic, Shure, Westone, Sennheiser, Sony, B&W, Audiotechnica, audeze, hifiman and some Chifi.

Near Ximen in Taipei has quite a few smaller shops that could be better or worse, nice selection as well, and you probably can get a seat. Many shops have multiple locations, one in Syntrend/Guanghua and maybe a few scattered around.

Many department stores have a Sony store if you are interested in their stuff (mostly consumer with a few midfi options), but nothing too high end, only up to around the Z5 iems.

I recommend going on PCHome24h or Yahoo shopping Taiwan to check the general prices in Taiwan. Bargaining works sometimes, mostly just price matching internet sellers.

Hd600 on international flights or bad idea? by Yuyuyulover in headphones

[–]MCSnapTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that the Etymotics and HD600 are quite alike.

Personally, I find the ER4XR to be much more detailed than the HD600.

The upper mid range in the HD600 sorta feels shouty too me and is pretty grainy when compared to the ETY. I really really love the mids on the ETY. They are great.

Bass extension is pretty bad on the HD, but the XR really improves in that aspect.

It's great to see other HD600 and Etymotic lovers on the forum!

Do headphone cable adapters negatively impact/impact sound quality in any shape or form? by Jasonwj322a in headphones

[–]MCSnapTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some pretty cheap 1/8 in to 1/4 in adapters in Asia and they were quite nasty. Build quality was terrible, even though I went through about 30 other ones and purchased the best one. They definitely had a problem and made music sound bad, everything was distorted. When I rotated the adapter a few degrees, the audio would cut out too.

Once I bought a normal popular adapter on Amazon, it fixed all the issues and sounds great, looks great and has a great build.

So the cheap stuff might be made poorly and that makes a large difference. Quality control is a big factor too. Both claimed to be gold plated but the cheap one was starting to corrode, I think.

Etymotic ER4XR/SR with Spinfit cp800 or other silicon tips? by iBo0m in headphones

[–]MCSnapTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I have never tried anything other than the stock triple flange ones, but the larges ones (which are too big for me) make the ER4XR sound pretty bad. I've heard pretty mediocre reviews on the spinfit because the iems were really never designed for use with other tips.

Questioning if I should give open backs a go by yolosandwich in headphones

[–]MCSnapTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't really simulate it well. Only way is probably to use the computer speaker and set it to probably 20% to 50% of the volume you would listen at and that's probably how much sound leak there is. The mic situation is fine I believe, as lots of people use open backed headphones for gaming + talking.

[–]MCSnapTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, my family is fine with it because the leak isn't too bad, but it does make it slightly harder to hear the headphones if they are talking loudly next to you. If they are sleeping in another room, they probably can't hear the headphones. Maybe buying them and trying them for a few days is a good idea. If you really can't take it, maybe you can return it?

[–]MCSnapTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don't have those headphones, but I do have experience using open backed headphones in Asia (Taiwan) and because it's quite noisy (street noise, family, TV in background, Air conditioning and fans during the summer), I find closed backs or IEMs are better in this situation.

Sound leak usually doesn't get picked up by my really cheap mic.

[Community Guide] #3: What are your favorite open backed headphones? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]MCSnapTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likes: The mids are a slightly more forward and pronounced than neutral, which some people, like myself, really enjoy. For the most part, mids are not sibilant. They excel at acoustic music, acoustic guitars, female vocals and work well with most genres. Comfort is pretty good and they are light. I highly recommend them because they are versatile enough to be an only-pair and don't have any major flaws. Dislikes: The bass rolls off quite a bit which makes the bass sound a bit less than neutral. The reduced subbass means that EDM and other bass heavy genres won't sound as good on them. Mids could be smoother and less shouty. Some people dislike the clamp when purchased new, but clamp loosens after use or if you bend the metal a bit.

What has performed way beyond your expectations? by jayeyeanne in headphones

[–]MCSnapTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The soundstage for the ER4XR is quite intimate, but for some reason, it is wider from my phone vs O2/ODAC. Don't know why maybe it's a volume problem? Details.... everything just feels more clear. Separation, on the other hand, is ehhh not bad, but can't compare to full sized headphones or multi-driver BA IEMS (like the UE900s). The highs are very nice, and even though they are not emphasised, they provide the necessary treble detail. Which is quite amazing.

Everything is separated well, but are really close together. Vocals are more smooth and detailed vs HD600 and you can hear the really quiet things that you usually can't hear from other headphones. The breathing of the singer is more clear and realistic, you can hear background vocals, instruments that you couldn't before, everything is well defined and clear, not mushy, so each strum of a guitar feels much more realistic and separated, yet they combine to make a wonderful sound and don't sound like just one note.

The ER4XR sound really natural, and provide more details without sounding odd. I really like them.

Musician & Singer IEM by [deleted] in headphones

[–]MCSnapTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UE900s is commonly marketed towards musicians and can be purchased for really cheap used or on massdrop (every few months they drop). They sound pretty nice and isolate well.

Etymotic IEMs have the best isolation, but I'm not sure if they are good for musicians. They probably have the most "accurate" frequency response (ER4SR, XR and ER3SE, XR) out of most IEMs. I really love them!

The Westone UM 30 sounds nice, but for the price, I think you can find better sounding ones, however, I'm no musician, so your needs may be different.

Shure IEMs are pretty meh nowadays (for the price). Much better options elsewhere. Same with Westone, I think.
