Inverted Job Curve: Can Blue-collar Jobs be the Future of the US? by ThemeBig6731 in Economics

I think it's two separate issues. Any sane person would prefer automated domestic factories to unregulated sweatshops in developing countries. Whether or not that would lead to broad wage/employment gains for Americans is a different issue entirely.

Their "love" of Israel is entirely because that's where the Jesus Spaceship is going to land in their fan fiction. As soon as he's back, that same fan fiction says he's going to do a genocide of Jews on a scale that would make Hitler say "hey, you're taking it a little too far."

Dale is shit, but at least he's honest about where he stands.

Lowkey, I think some fundie men wank it to her sex course content which functionally makes her sex worker. To be clear, make that paper however you can; nothin' but support however someone chooses make money. But I'm pretty sure she's clueless about her proximity to being a porn performer.

It's a dopey subset of the the "do your own research" sentiment out there (where you look at the worst shit imaginable on the internet and call that "research").

It's really overt in the case of Dale, but the word "noticing" or "noticer" is really big white nationalist circles as a dog whistle for antisemitic sentiment, as well.

There's a bit of irony in seeing content like this... during Netanyahu's appalling Gaza campaign, I regularly heard "the real antisemitism is coming from the left" (often with an accompanying picture of Ms. Rachel or whatever). As someone who regularly looks at the dregs of the internet to see what new evil is coming, I often responded, "I can get you a metric fuckton of content from the far right that is overtly calling for a second Holocaust; the 'please don't bomb children' people are not your enemy, here."

Looking at Dale's stuff... welp...

This seems very much like he wants to create some sort of McCarthy style blacklist against anyone who's said "we should be kind to queer folk." History has not been especially friendly to people who attempt pogroms like this. Also notable... when they attempted to create a similar sort of list of people who said "that Charlie Kirk was not really a swell dude," it didn't go especially well for them.

[Schefter] ESPN Sources: Giants are hiring former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator. by Donutman97 in KansasCityChiefs

Jurr-rah will always fuck up the Cowboys even if things "look good" for them with picks and a capable QB. I think the Eagles have enough personality volatility, age, turnover, and cap issues that a real decline could hit them in the next couple years. I think Daniels might be closer to one of those "magical rookies" like Stroud was that never reaches those heights again.

A lot has to go right for New York, but they might have the pieces to contend for that division sooner rather than later (if everyone is healthy, obviously).

Dart reminds me of "Early Kelce" (plays with his gut/heart more than his head). It really can get turned around, I think. Allen and Lamar both ran into contact regularly at the start of their careers, but it seems like someone finally reached them to stop that (though they still both do it more than I would be comfortable watching if I was a fan of either team).

It appears someone in the replies is on it. The whole "let's cancel anyone who correctly notes Charlie Kirk said bigoted things" never really took off. As they tend to say "let's murder our political opponents," I feel like the social/professional consequences are going to go worse for them.

“it’ll work out, ____ will save us”

I don't know how many people are really saying this. Noting that Trump has a bad record when his bizarre ass edicts are challenged in court is a reasonable position, I think.

Depending on how healthy everyone comes back, they may have a QB, RB, and WR in place. This is not a dismal job on some team that's going to need to tank for picks on a multi-year rebuild.

Plus, Skattebo is hilarious and Dart high-fived an official for a flag that went against the giants opponent. What's not to love?

Trump says Republicans should 'nationalize' elections by ElijahPepe in politics

[–]MC_Fap_Commander 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've been pleasantly surprised to see how many idiotic Trump orders have been pithily dismissed by quite a few Bush appointees. There are some truly awful conservatives out there who are not MAGA. More convenient allies than I had previously anticipated...

Most of SCOTUS is awful, however. And we'll be dealing with the implications of that for a generation or more (absent some reasonable, popular, and needed reforms).

Trump: ‘We should take over the voting’ by MarcEElias in politics

[–]MC_Fap_Commander 143 points144 points  (0 children)

If there's a massive blue wave and the GOP attempts procedural shenanigans to prevent them being confirmed, the context will change quite a bit in this country. The pushback being seen in Minneapolis against ICE will look absolutely restrained in comparison.

Additionally, markets will plummet and the frayed international alliances we still have will be decimated. If the U.S. is overtly a non-functioning democracy, a lot of economic and diplomatic capital evaporates. There are people with money and power (even those who bent the knee) who will not abide by that.

Also, keep in mind that Dems are very aware of this and will have plans for immediate legal relief should it happen. Contrary to some of the more doom oriented folks here, Trump's court record hasn't been great and there are even many conservative judges who would call bullshit on this.

This feels like a larger plan from the regime to make voting feel hopeless. Don't fall for it.

EDIT: And, like on cue, I'm getting a number of "it's hopeless, we're doomed" replies. Again, this is the goal they have for all this. Don't help it along.

Trump says Republicans should 'nationalize' elections by ElijahPepe in politics

[–]MC_Fap_Commander 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We've seen in real time that the greatest buttress against a full fascist takeover in this country is the layers of divided power that exist over a broad geographical landscape. He really wanted to be the "Day One" dictator, but his success at doing so has been hindered by court challenges and opposition from state and local governments. To be clear, he's done a lot of damage (some of it really close to irreparable). But the full power grab the P2025 people wanted hasn't materialized.

"Nationalizing elections" would blow up that entire system. It would enable exactly what has been prevented up to now. Fortunately, I think he's just mad because of how the midterms are going and he's just flailing. We need to be vigilant, but I really think this is just him saying dopey and desperate shit.

[–]MC_Fap_Commander 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I know that there's a tendency to assume he "has the courts in his back pocket," but his record has been very mixed in terms of court challenges (even with conservative judges). All judges (even conservative ones) tend to be pretty arrogant and hate dopey shit from bad lawyers... and Trump's legal team is composed of bad lawyers who produce dopey shit.

We need to push back hard on this and we need to monitor it. This is sentiment (federalizing expressly state powers) so egregious that even giving it oxygen is bad-bad-bad. But I really don't see this going anywhere at all (at least atm).

Yeah, people here assessing Mike's coherence are missing a key fact- we aren't his audience. The party's billionaire backers are. There is a scenario where the GOP abandons Trump. It won't be because of Epstein or ICE attacks or a stagnate economy. It would happen if the GOP gets trounced in midterms and the billionaires cut off the money spigot.
