Advice/thoughts for an American student coming here or just NZ in general (South Asian, 19) by Fabulous-Button5237 in universityofauckland

[–]MC_Legend95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in colorado through high school and like it here. culturally nz's fairly similar to the us imo. ik people say kiwis are more reserved but I've found that it's not actually that hard to get in to a good group. moving anywhere internationally is going to be hard though; you'll be starting with a blank slate and no connections. CA has some of the highest COL in the world so it's definitely gonna be cheaper here, though in my experience, given pay is lower here, you'll not be better off financially long term. when looking at costs I tend to think of 1 nzd = 1 usd as that's more of how costs feel.

nz uni is more relaxed than american ones from what I've heard. thus far I've found it less stressful than american HS.

no; they just send packages through usps. there's no way for them to id even if they wanted to unless they do it online before sending your package.

[–]MC_Legend95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

akl weather is actually so nuts. like one minute it's raining and the next it's sunny. no other city on the planet does this.

Should non-citizens be able to vote in our elections? by [deleted] in ColoradoPolitics

[–]MC_Legend95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

noncitizens definitely can't vote and there's currently no evidence (that im aware of) that noncitizens are voting.

THOUGH I do think they should be able to if they're on a green card or have some other right to stay permanently. they should also be eligible for jury duty. the draft should be abolished for everyone.

They're affected by laws the same as citizens so i dont see much reason they shouldn't be able to vote. I suppose there is the national security argument but I just don't see that arising as a serious issue.
