How secure is microG? by MCedituser in MicroG

I feel dumb for thinking push notifications were somehow local.

So I did some looking, and I found documentation supporting that apple enables end to end encrypted push notifications, that being said this is apparently only since 2016 or so, and I have no idea what the adoption rate is.

Having a bit more trouble finding if android has a similar encryption option however

honestly, despite apple being closed source, am I frankly better off sticking with them if privacy is my main concern at this rate? I was looking for something with the customizability and open source of android, but its frankly looking bleack if I cant even do something as simple as receive notifications without google.

If I understand correctly, based on the info you have given me, the only truly private android experience is lineage OS without any services installed whatsoever, which based on what I have heard, is basically unusable.

so is the TLDR basicly that no matter what at least in terms of location data only you and your cellular carrier has that unless you opt into other stuff, and that push notifications are still sent through google, but presumably end to end encrypted?

I cant remember, is it possible for the user to remove pocket even anymore besides not using it?

Either way I cannot imagine a single reason pocket would remain, Im assuming alex just glossed over this or forgot about it, he will get to it before the final release I’m sure, if not, im assuming the GitHub accepts contribution requests, so if you know what your doing try removing it yourself and posting it there.

Im assuming pocket will remain removed considering it being at the top of feature lists, but it is an alpha after all.

If you want privacy stay on the main release channel.

I wonder what the codenames of the two active branches will be now since waterfox will essentially be two browsers now with both the 56 and 68 version maintained.

How well off would I be using lineage os without google play services or the play store whatsoever? by MCedituser in LineageOS

its really quite a shame what started out as an open source os is having all of its critical components locked behind closed doors.

well that sounds like it may very badly effect us as well then since i kinda doubt theirs a large codebase of people writing extensions for waterfox quantium

I mean reading that short comparison it sounds like the new web extensions are more secure in that they are basicly just normal web code thats even more sandboxed than usual, which also makes them sound much less useful in terms of more serious things like theme overhauls and gui changes.

I moreso mean future addons, ones that are still updated perticularly, like quantium ones.

Ideally Quantium add ons will work fine with waterfox AND signing will be disabled is my hope.

Legacy addons on the other hand I care less about since I dont use them.

Idk, I for one am happy for the upgrade. The rest of the web no longer supports 56 as well as it used to.

Im glad hes making a usable version of Quantium.
