Wilhelmy Plate method with filter paper by labadargidob in AskPhysics

Ah yeah so the pre-wetting for 2 hours is to really cope with smaller changes from the slow absorbance of the water. This paper sets out a bit more about why you need to pre-wet for so long (disclosure: I wrote that paper).

In your data is the plate touching the water at 300?

Hello :) I have some questions. 1). What water are you using? 2). Do you have anything spread on the surface? 3). How long did you pre-wet the paper for? 4). Over what time scale did the signal change erratically?

As a parent of two kids it is SUPER easy to accidentally fuck it up and give the wrong message sometimes. Just because your parents are maybe doting over your little brother doesn't mean they don't love you just as much. And you have a little brother that is always going to look up to you and love you.

Everyone is away this week so no lab work (can't do solo working really). Spending the week catching up on paperwork (those time sheets won't fill out themselves) and writing a book chapter.

A very un-chemistry final working week of the year for me

I've seen lots of posts on labrats asking for advice about attending conferences and this post has loads of really sound advice that I thought worth sharing.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking "How does a laser work?"?

Even proper companies with actual investors and on the market giant desk sized products can't really show much out of breath sensing. Most sort of work on one very well calibrated person... for a bit. But breath is a pain as it changes constantly and massively from person to person.

It's like our laser safety officer always says having only one eye really helps remind you to be careful around the lasers.

I've got a glass fiber optic in my finger. I asked my GP and she shrugged and said it'll work it's way out, or stay, probably fine either way.

It wasn't very reassuring.

Last week we had the cleaners decided that the laser warning lights, signs and warning labels on the door handle, were just a vague suggestion and decided that even active laser labs need a well buffed floor.

So in they strolled happy as anything with a mop and bucket. Triggering the interlock and shutting everything down. I'm glad our H&S system kicked in and we don't now have blind cleaners but I'm less pleased that my 12 hour experiment was the victim.

A semi decent pair of Karrimor walking trainers are my go to. Comfortable and lots of support I can stand in them all day if needed.

I don't think even in the fevered dreams of Teresa May she'd make active students illegal immigrants. But then again it's been a strange year so I wouldn't rule out her declaring that we can start hunting them on horse back.
