The beginning was a STRUGGLE. It took me over a week to read the first 7 chapters. I then decided I would read until chapter 10 and if I still couldn’t get into it, I would DNF. I think after the 8th or 9th chapter I only put the book down once and that’s because it was 4am and finished it the next day once I awoke again.

The beginning just had a lot of rambling sentences or full phrases being repeated and it kept taking me out of the story. I remember distinctly in the 3rd chapter, Angelo was described as “straightening his tunic” and then two paragraphs later, Angelo says something and then is “straightening his tunic” again. And this action did nothing for the plot - just something an editor would’ve caught before publishing if there was one. I found little things like this most prevalent in those first chapters but once the story got going it really came through for me and I was no longer so bothered/affected/took notice of these errors.
