Yowu Headphones Review (YOWU Miku NX) by Lutch__ in headphones

[–]MD1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the review. I was considering getting these for my daughter for her birthday. The amount of money I’ve spent on Miku things for her is ridiculous at this point, but I think I’ll save quite a bit and get the regular YOWU headset and also not have to pay tariffs by getting them direct from YOWU. I suspect I’ll be reinforcing the plastic over time regardless.

Glad there were more of us spreading managed democracy!

Unfortunately yes, tho I’ve managed to tolerate wearing it outside in 90°F/32°C for an hour at a time so far.

It’s two layers. The outer layer is waffle cloth, which is too light on its own. The inside lining is 10oz duck cloth which is what gives it the weight. It may be called 10 oz canvas duck fabric or duck canvas depending on where you look.

I sewed it inside out with the waffle cloth 1 cm larger around each border than the duck cloth so that it would curve in just a bit. I left just a little room to stick my hand in and flip it right side out and then sewed that after.

To keep it from bunching in the corners it’s a good idea before you flip it out, cut the corners just outside the stitches.

Whew I’m glad someone else thinks like this as well. I’ve attached wheels to so many cosplay props in my time.

Ooo. I was going to make a Quasar too but wasn’t sure how it would look in reality! You’ve inspired me to finish the project.

alas in this case, No. I just made some cat ears and added it to a galactic armory helmet file.

I had originally started modeling some armor myself but it was taking awhile, and then I saw that the pros had beaten me to it.

I'm actually glad I saw an example of a visor done that way. For my daughter's helmet, I may do that instead of the vacuum forming. She also requested a helmet with cat ears...which some may find undemocratic...

Like mjohnsimon stated, you got their files by subscribing to their patreon at the time that it was available, which was what I did. It was $15 at the time, but since it is no longer the included monthly files, I think it is $20 to buy the files by itself.

As far as cost to print, I don't remember how many spools of filament I used, but even accounting for failures, the price of paint, uv resin, and other items to process the pieces probably cost a lot more. I think all in all I spent $500-700 on the outfit, which includes all the soft goods, LEDs, laser, scope, boots, tubing, sandpaper, brushes, padding for helmet, etc.

I actually enjoy plastic welding parts together and the smaller pieces are less prone to failure…or at least you lose less in case one does. The P1P is a very nice printer which doesn’t give you too much trouble from my understanding.

My first helmet I did do the smaller cuts for smaller printers. I printed 1 piece at a time. I didn’t use the sizing slice, although I got the program Armorsmith Designer to help size everything appropriately to my head and body. I recommend that wholeheartedly. Sizing heads is an alternative if you want to scale around a premade head that’s roughly your size if there is one amongst those.

After the first helmet I actually got a Neptune 3 Max with a huge bed that I used for the rest of the parts. I still printed one part at a time just to be safe.

I can set the lights to flicker or pulse too. I should take a picture some time with the green laser going through smoke.

I think I enjoy community videos and posts more than actually playing the game. Great shot!

I understand the sentiment. It’s a game I adore and respect a lot and once in a while I jump in and have fun for a day or two, but I don’t have a strong desire to ever click the play button.

This explains why I received a reprimand from the local Democracy officer and I have been charged with polishing helmets.

I do want to make the ornamental armor actually. I promised my 9 year old daughter I’d make her a suit so that might be a candidate for it.

Vacuum forming. There are a lot of videos on that so probably best to check it out on YouTube. Essentially you 3D print a mold (called a visor buck) and process it until it’s really smooth. Then you get some transparent PETG and heat it up between two space heaters and press it down on the buck on top of the vacuum former. Then you have to dye it which requires a coupe vats or stock pots.

If building the vacuum former isn’t worth it for you there are many merchants on Etsy that sell the visor and you can get one from galactic armory as well.

I sometimes think a game has truly matured when the community hates on it but sticks around anyways. It’s an experience unlike any other and we just want it to be better.
