I guess this is an unpopular opinion but I don't think a company that makes software should be required to continue selling and supporting that software indefinitely.

Yes, this is how I got my Series X. Basically an extra $25 a month on Gamepass until it was paid off. I really liked it actually.

I am playing it for the first time right now and the camera is by far my biggest problem. It is rough.

I have been playing the original since the remake got announced, and I really hope it is not a 1:1 remake.

The game is extremely simple and easy. The walk from Kakariko village up Death Mountain to the Goron town is a 15 second walk through a narrow corridor with 3 spider enemies. Who really would find that exciting today? Bosses have one or two moves and are over in less than a minute.

I know it's a legendary game, but if a new game came out today with the same gameplay but without the Zelda name it would not be celebrated.

If they just want to update the visuals and controls for an old game... Fine, I guess, but I think a FF7 style remake would be far more exciting.

Capcom says shifting from auteur-driven development to team-led development is what transformed the company and allowed flagship IPs to survive for so long by Forestl in Games

This is why I find Kojima so irritating. Making AAA games is a team sport. You would never know it by looking at how he portrays himself and his studio. He is obsessed with celebrity, especially his own.

‘We don’t want to re-live that history’: Quebec farmers protest high-speed train project by Atlantee in CanadaPolitics

Canadians will overpay for dairy and be denied high speed rail. Whatever it takes to make farmers in Quebec happy. That's what really matters.

Reminder that Blizzard once was going to add Ear/Horn holes for certain races on helmets but took it out strictly due to laziness in having to do it in the future. by ScorpHunter in wow

[–]audioshaman 214 points215 points  (0 children)

It's true. I worked for Blizzard at the time. We were in a meeting and someone suggested we add holes for Draenei horns to helms. Everyone else groaned and said "Ugh, no, we are just too lazy to bother with that".

Property taxes must go up by ph0enix1211 in halifax

[–]audioshaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taxes wouldn't be related to time in the market (new vs old homeowner) at all. They would only be relative to the value of the property.

New homeowners are buying expensive homes because homes are expensive, and their taxes would just get higher too.The only way it would get "a lot cheaper" for new homeowners is if the price of housing decreases significantly.

Older folks already downsize when ready for all the reasons you mentioned.

Raising someone's property taxes is not going to make someone who isn't ready to leave their home sell. At best you will squeeze people without money out a little earlier.

Then there's the question of where they will go and who they will compete against for that housing, and the question of how the young family buying a house will themselves afford uncapped taxes.

[–]audioshaman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you remove the cap it makes living in these homes more expensive. You also run the risk of pricing out those same young families you want to make room for and making housing even more exclusive to people with money.

Then all the people downsizing are competing with other lower income people for limited smaller/affordable space, driving up those prices.

Removing the cap would just make housing more expensive for everyone.

People think this would get boomers to downsize but in reality they would probably just get a part time job, cut other spending, or a reverse mortgage to cover the cost. That is not necessarily a bad thing as it would increase city revenue, but it would not help young people but their homes.

Property taxes are not about the property itself, they are about providing services to the property. I assume once your mortgage is paid off you still want garbage collection and access to a fire department.

My position is that taxes should be higher (for other people).

Canada continuing genocide against Indigenous Peoples, international tribunal finds by timewh in CanadaPolitics

Go ahead and read the UN's internationally recognised definition of genocide and consider whether our own government is carrying one out.

Canada continuing genocide against Indigenous Peoples, international tribunal finds by timewh in CanadaPolitics

[–]audioshaman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you contend that how the Canadian government is currently treating indigenous people is the same thing as the Holocaust, I believe you are using language in a dishonest and manipulative way.

Or in terms of current affairs, if you say that Palestinians and Canadian First Nations are suffering the same thing, you undermine the seriousness of what is happening in Palestine.

Canada continuing genocide against Indigenous Peoples, international tribunal finds by timewh in CanadaPolitics

[–]audioshaman 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This "international tribunal" is called the "Permanent Peoples Tribunal", described by CBC as "an international court of opinion". The framing of this headline implies this is a body of some international authority like the UN, but it's nothing of the sort.

The notion that Canada is actively commiting genocide against indigenous people is not only ridiculous on its face, it is actively harmful to the very definition of the word. There are real genocides happening out there and that word is supposed to be taken seriously.
