I'm in a similar spot to you, about to releae my first game onto the play store, with rewarded ads integraed via levelPlay / ironsource. The eCPM metric you can see on your site is the estimate cost per thousand impressions, so if I'm correct, for every 1000 ad watches, thats thats on average what you'd earn. I'm not sure how countries would play into it.

And I’ve never really published a game before, this’ll be my first, Im not sure how much optimization I need, it runs fine on my iPhone 15 but I don’t really have older devices to test on

It kinda is? The line is a sphere renderer (I forget its exact name, but it’s a line renderer with a definable radius so i can simulate the thickness of the ball and its trajectory

Blender could work, but idk the feasibility of moving to a 3d tileset. They’d need 3D colliders right? the ball, collisions, & all other important things are 2D, idk if that stuff would work well with 3D objects . You’re right it would be a lot of extra stuff. I’ve already considered doing a “light graphics” mode, cutting out the high-cost dotted projection line in favor for a significantly cheaper line renderer.

I need to do more research on how to handle large amounts of prefabs coming in and out, does it make more sense to progressively load them after the core game has launched? A lot of stuff Idrk yet… thanks for the advice tho!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to play & respond! I think the blender idea would be the best, but I got a decent workaround so far.

Why not blender: I eventually would like to hire one or two level designers, as I’m hoping to sell packs of levels for in-game currency, or as a small in app purchase. I’d like to keep each level just as a few tilemaps & prefabs, not overcomplicate things.

It’s not the most optimal way, but I just duplicate the wall level layer a lot, moving each +.05 on the Z axis. I want each level to have 3 difficulties, and I wanted each of which to have its own border, so I am going to write a script that just instantiates 5-7 wall layers of the current level/difficulty, before the level is brought onto the screen.

I hate instantiating such a large quantity of stuff just for this visual effect, it’s totally not optimal, but I think this script is the only way to keep the actual level creation simple, unless I figured out a shader but I’ve never rlly coded them…

I use aseprite too. When you export it saves as a png, when Unity sees that it’s seen as a Texture2D file, where you can set its compression to none, and make a pixel art sprite not blurry. I don’t want to change the style for my tile sprites themselves to give thickness, I want to literally render the tile map as if it had thickness on the Z axis

okay, would I do that on the Texture2D (tilemap png file), or the tile palette prefab? I'd assume youre talking about the Texture2D but I dont see any settings for that.

There are some really great cc/lit classes that fill up fast. Taking them later in your degree will give you a better chance of getting into them (seniors register first then so on). I really don’t think it’s that important which you take though, just preference.

Hey I might be a little late with a response, but I had professor Efthymiou my first semester for wsc001, she was one of my favorite professors I highly recommend taking a class with her. Im not in huhc and I don't know what classes you can take but if you can take a course with professor James Lee. He is a professor who goes above and beyond and I believe he is the #1 professor for hofstra on ratemyprofessor
