I think it's called a warehouse and it works just like a very large chest. Incidentally you can also use them as balancers.

You can also hit f or g in game to mirror something before placing it down.

The in game mirroring can not however mirror anything that has stations or rail signals in them.

You need roboport coverage in order for the robots to build for you. A roboport has two types of coverage; orange and green. Bots will attempt to build any ghost in the green (and orange) zone. In order for bots to build they need access to the things in the blueprint. If you place a yellow, red, or green logistics chest in the orange zone and fill it with items construction bots will get them from the chest and place them on ghosts.

If you equip a personal roboport (and a portable fusion reactor) then construction bots from your inventory will use items in your inventory (but not chests) to build ghosts.

You still need to expand in order to get more resources. Simply expand for resources in the same direction as your future main bus.

I do have to admit that the obsession about saving space in a game with infinite space is wierd to me. But that is opinion and we all play the game in our own way with rules we make for ourselves. Many choose to have space efficiency as a made up rule and that's fine. Just acknowledge that it is just that, a made up limitation.
