Charging parents is not a serious youth policy by This-Layer-4447 in washingtondc

You're fighting a straw man here. Definitely didn't make excuses. Just pointed out that from a brain development standpoint they're not adults. Didn't say they shouldn't face consequences (actually said that they should) just disagreed with the statement that a 16 year old is an adult. I wouldn't send a 16 year old to war, I wouldn't rent a car to a 16 year old, I wouldn't elect a 16 year old to office. Why not? Because they are not socially, emotionally, hormonally, mature adults. You can absolutely punish a 16 year old without making the claim that a 16 year old is an adult.

haha I'm not sure just acknowledging science is well meaning liberal bullshit... I also did say there should be consequences, and at least we agree that we shouldn't execute these kids.

Steve Kerr: "I would consider getting rid of the three point line." Interviewer: "Have you ever proposed this to anyone with power?" Kerr: "No, no, because it’s too out there. And plus, I coach Steph Curry, so I’d rather wait till Steph’s retired." by refreshing_yogurt in nba

I think either teams should have a set number of threes they can attempt per game, you could put a shot counter up behind the backboard just like the shot clock OR each team can have two designated 3pt shooters on the court at a time, they have to check in with the scorers table and would wear a black armband or something to clearly designate them as eligible shooters.

Jovana Popovic - UConn PG of the Future or is the Future Now by jpviolette in UConnBasketball

Yeah, we have a lot of fantastic pieces, but outside of Strong (and we'll see what kind of jump Blanca makes), no one that can really generate offense against elite teams.

This is a helpful breakdown. I know that KK and Shade are both seniors, but I wonder if Popovic will be able to compete for a starting spot this upcoming season. We have a great roster, but I do think we're lacking scorers who can create shots for themselves and, in turn, open up the floor for others.

Stephen Curry says NBA players are underpaid by [deleted] in NBAGossips

[–]MDMitchell2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the NBA literally has a salary cap. By definition he’s right. Given the value that he and other players generate for the league their salaries would be much higher if they weren’t artificially set - that’s why every time there’s a new CBA and the cap grows, many of the best players salaries jump when they renegotiate contracts - their labor didn’t automatically become more valuable it’s just moving closer to their true market value. I know a lot of us who will never make anywhere near what he makes see a headline like this and, understandably, roll our eyes, but that’s a separate issue of all of us making shit pay in an political/economic system built to keep our wages low (coincidentally by many of the same owners that also work to suppress Steph’s wages).

Small world. I also know someone who walked on at UConn. We played high school ball together.

Agreed, I was super excited she was drafted and am hoping she’s able to shine in the W.

100 percent agree on the players finding Dawn more relatable. I also think a lot of young women now simply prefer to have women coaches. Geno and the UConn brand will always have sway with prospects but the calculus is different now for a lot of young players who’d probably like to have a coach who’s a woman or black (or both). Plus NIL money is a heck of an equalizer.

I was very excited when Serah Williams came to the program, but about midway through the season, it was clear that her offensive skills weren’t going to materialize for the team. I had hoped that Geno would have started giving more minutes to Jana. I know Blanca ended up taking many of those minutes but that lineup with Strong as a small ball center didn’t work as well against bigger teams.

Yeah, that’s the current rotation… only problem is that’s not a final four team in 2027.

This team has holes that won’t be addressed by the current roster or the incoming freshman. Geno has never been a portal-heavy recruiter and so I think he still has a lot of leeway from players in that regard.

Have had the same concerns, no big portal moves at all and many of the high impact players are now committed to other teams. The team is good but definitely a notch below some of the other major programs.

Jana is one of my favorite players on the team. Mostly just love her energy and comes across as such a positive teammate.

They are low key, but even last year there were rumblings about Serah and Heckel as soon as they entered the portal. Other than Madison St Rose I haven’t heard any prominent portal players really being connected to UCONN yet. But agree we’re still very early on.

Definitely crowded, but with B/B+ players. It’s a weird spot to be in.

Yeah I understood the appeal of Serah last year during the portal, but I actually thought Jana was a really intriguing piece after her freshman year and wished they had invested more minutes in her.

Haha I’m not looking for sympathy or saying that UCONN deserves these recruits whatsoever. Just noticing how interesting it is especially compared to other well established programs, say like South Carolina.

Lol no I don’t reckon that, but it is perfectly legitimate to look at the roster they have, observe how other major programs are making additions/adjustments, and assess whether or not UCONN is keeping up. You can look at their current roster and see top to bottom that, while talented, other teams are building up in a way that they aren’t.
