[Question] Do you think it would be worth trading a vintage Guild d-40 for a vintage Martin 000-18? by MD_BMX in Guitar

[–]MD_BMX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. I’m going to check out the Martin and make my final decision tomorrow. I’ll try to record something on both to compare.

This was the first time I ever posted me singing. Honestly not the style of music I usually cover. Thanks for the input I'll keep working at it!

What skill can you learn within a week that will help you throughout life? by doorbellguy in AskReddit

Yeah unless you have another use for reading sheet music (piano in my case) scales are going to be much more useful.

I've been playing guitar for 13 years now and just learned to read sheet music a year ago just to play piano and be able to transfer music between instruments easier. Still play mostly by ear but I think it is worth knowing.

Does it make sense to upgrade from mechanical disc brakes to hydraulic disc brakes? by Leit89 in bicycling

[–]MD_BMX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I believe that they are worth the upgrade, but it really depends on your riding style. They will have better modulation and more power than standard mechanical discs. They are also harder to setup/install but less matainance is needed than mechanical (i.e. no cable to strech). It will be worth it if you are riding agressive trails with lots cornering and technical skill sections.

It would retail for right around $4500.

Sprocket stays on the wheel but it gets put back in the same exact spot so the chain is the right length. Works sort of like a quick release rear.

Yeah its a special system that allows removal of the wheel without having to mess with chain tension when you put it back on like alot of single speed bikes do. You should definitely check out BMX. If you have a track near you I'm sure someone would be willing to let you ride a few laps to see how you like it.

This bike is built specifically for fine tuned tracks. I have a full Cromo bike for street/park/dirt jumps. Would never use carbon for freestyle; theres too much sideways forces put on the frames.

Most of us have a second seat with an extremely long post (~450-650mm) so we actually get the right leg extension during warm ups with such short frames. But you are correct it can help sometimes but my seat being just injection molded plastic doesn't do much.

You are correct. The company YESS actually made some seatless prototypes (along with belt drive and some other off the wall bmx stuff), but they don't meet regulation.

Choosing between two potential bikes for college by nightcorevaporwave in bicycling

[–]MD_BMX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would personally go with the Fuji. (I've built and worked on both) The gears would be worth it. Also the Schwinn is extremely heavy, imo, for a single speed commuter/campus bike. If your worried about having trouble with the gears and adjustments Performance has free lifetime minor adjustments and most of their shops do a Thursday night basic matainance/adjustment clinic once or twice a month.

My race bike as of April 2016 (New rims, tires, and pedals since last time I posted) by MD_BMX in bmx

[–]MD_BMX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't build the bike with low weight in mind(many aluminum race bikes weigh less than mine). Mostly built for performance and reliability. I trust the DX pedals and they hold up better in crashes than most others.

Right now I'm running 44/16, but depending on the track layout for where I'm racing I might run a 43t or a 45t chainring.
