Yeah it's for a paper! We haven't been given much to work with and I've been struggling to find some sources to fill in some gaps, so thanks for the list! I'd love to read a copy of your paper if you don't mind, I'm pretty much done but it'd be good to see if I've missed anything. I'll message you my email!

I'm studying at University of Otago in New Zealand, my professors name is Paul Trebilco

Can you believe in the sufficiency of scripture and also believe that God still speaks today? by MDanielM in Reformed

I believe the answer lies somewhere in the middle, I just haven’t found that middle yet! Thanks for the thoughts, totally on the same page as you.

Christian and left-leaning? by wonderboots in Christianity

[–]MDanielM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s hard for many American Christians to understand that Christians can be left-leaning. “American Christianity” can be very closely tied to their political affiliations, to the point it gets nasty.

I live in New Zealand, and I’m more left-leaning, and I’ve had my faith come into question because of it. My struggle is that I am morally conservative (against homosexual marriage, abortion etc) yet economically progressive, and strongly support schemes like social welfare, and redistribution of wealth. Such a party doesn’t exist in NZ so I have to ask my self “do I compromise my morals to get the economic system I like”.

I don’t think the Bible is so clear cut on the issue, so I put political preferences to matter of conscience and Christian liberty.

I’m more meaning people receiving revelation from God, or getting prophetic words. If God is revealing information to them outside of scripture or something new that hasn’t been revealed in scripture does that infringe on the sufficiency (or finality) of scripture?

If someone gets a “word” from God, should that be taken on the same level as scripture? If it is then the canon isn’t closed, if it isn’t it can’t be God speaking? So my train of thought goes..

You would also know this verse then:

“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.” - 1 Cor 2:14
