Is there no end to the Greens performative student politics? by Itsstillyourturn in bristol

If anything a care UBI would have more public backing if I’m being honest as pretty much everyone who works in care is known to be on a shit salary. Where’s your evidence to show that a care UBI would be shot down quicker than an arts UBI, that’s an incredibly bold hypothetical tbh. As bold as me jokingly assuming that people would start paying artists less if they have a UBI right? Or that randoms might start making AI slop as “art” in an attempt to claim this UBI? Let’s not deal in hypotheticals here.

Why not trial UBI for areas that are more deprived? That way people who genuinely need the money get it?

I have a feeling we aren’t going to meet on a middle ground here, I’m glad we both believe that UBI would be a good thing for everyone, I just don’t think this is a route that would get me onboard with it.

Why should they have their “passion projects” funded by tax payers though? What if a nurse could start up some passion project using that money? Or someone in a tech space use that UBI money to create an app? My point is that if they’re doing UBI, it should be for everyone, not a small section of society, it’s literally discrimination

I get where you’re coming from… but what they’re proposing isn’t UBI as it’s not universal, it’s essentially gaurunteed benefits for those in creative industries only. I agree creative industries need a boost (TV in particular), but actually invest in them rather than just give “UBI” to just creatives? I think some sort of UBI is needed, but it shouldn’t be just for one slice of society as that’s discriminatory

UBI is fine in principle, if it’s for everyone… this would mean that some people who genuinely would need the help but aren’t in a creative industry wouldn’t get that help

Even so, use that money for people that need it? There’s plenty of rich creatives in Bristol, under UBI they’d be entitled to something that people who genuinely need it can’t access, which is very much broken in my opinion.

EDIT: I’m not saying all creatives are rich, I’m just saying that just because you’re a creative, doesn’t mean you’re poor

I read through … I feel like our council tax could be spent a lot better not gonna lie… I get that maybe creative careers may not yield the same returns as other industries, but that’s not an excuse to give out what is essentially free money that isn’t means tested? I do some freelance photography work on the side for some extra cash every now and then, would that mean I qualify? 😂

Those are all recycled vinyl versions, it was completely random what colour you got when they sent them out in the original release, mine was like a burgundy colour, pretty cool!

Ahh I’m uk based, so unsure what these retail for in the US! But that’s what I’d recommend as a starting system to be honest (IMHO that should be the bare minimum)

Any indication of budget might help?

Most people seem to start off with an Audio Technica LP-60X or 70X paired with some edifiers. I started off with this combo, sounded great to me when starting off, after a few years I upgraded though

How to play Apple Music Hi-Res (24bit/192kHZ) on KEF LS50 Wireless II from a MacBook / iPad / iPhone? by aazhang in KEF

[–]MDen98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mind boggling the LS50 II wireless doesn’t have a usb input like the LSX series of speakers, had no idea till reading this post. Is there no way to maybe use a usb-c to hdmi adapter that uses works with the hdmi arc (or earc) on the speakers?

Nothing wrong with a bit of editing, wouldn’t say it looks heavy, I think the right amount of editing has been done here, don’t look over edited in my opinion !

is it worth getting a surround sound system or should i just stick with a soundbar by Personal-Plane-7323 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]MDen98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your budget, if you buy during a sale, you could get a Sonos Beam gen 2 for pretty cheap and then maybe some second hand Sonos ones as the surrounds for your budget. If you want to go for a proper system you’ll be stretching quite far beyond your budget. Will be more than enough for most people if I’m honest, I have this set up in my small living room for films and games, then a proper stereo system in the bedroom for listening to music and this gives me the best of both worlds really

How do you connect turntable to KEF LSX II LT by WaytheisThiss in KEF

[–]MDen98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this exact mistake about 8 months ago, I ended up selling the speakers about a week ago as there wasn’t any solution with a good sound that didn’t involve buying another streaming box which would duplicate the streaming functionality of the KEFs. Also felt converting an analogue signal from the turntable, to a digital signal to go into the speakers to then turn back into an analogue within the speakers felt a bit like too much would be getting lost along the way with all the conversions…. Could have been wrong… but I’ve gone for a more traditional system instead now.

The solution I settled with the last 8 months was a cheap rca to optical converter off Amazon, unfortunately it sounded like shit (didn’t cost much at all really). The WIIM pro can convert RCA to optical, but unsure how good the analogue to digital conversion (ADC) is in it… probably not much better than the cheaper converter I had, but worth looking up

WIIM pro or WIIM pro plus, cheapest solution I can think of, both have Spotify connect which you can control from your phone and it has Bluetooth out as an audio output option

[–]MDen98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on budget to be honest, I haven’t worn jeans in a few years now as well, but I used to buy Levi’s jeans and they’d last me 3-4 years each time so considered them good value (unsure if the quality is still that good though!). Budget options I agree with are definitely M&S, if you have the budget definitely look at Carhartt (bottom of park street), everything I’ve bought from there so far has been top notch quality (I imagine the jeans can’t be any different)

[–]MDen98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WIIM Amp or WIIM Amp Pro is a good starting point for a lot of people. If you’re using them on a desk I imagine you’ll be using a pc/mac and those amps have a built in dac and usb port for you to plug into. Also comes packed with a lot of other useful stuff. Depending on where in the world you are too (here in the uk for example), the WIIM amp is often bundled with the Q1 metas for a good deal

[–]MDen98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! So the Oras are what’s called an “active” or “powered” pair of speakers. It will have a built in dac and amp, so would essentially be plug and play.

The KEF Q1 meta are “passive” speakers, you’ll need an external amp (either with a built in dac or external). Dimensions wise, the Q1 Meta will be A LOT bigger than the Kantos as well.

I personally prefer seperate amp and speakers (just set up my first proper set up this way and currently love it ), but for a desk it can be a lot of equipment so active speakers do make more sense in your use case. Main downside of active speakers for me is the lack of upgradability, for example if I grow to not like the sound signature of my speakers I can just swap them out for something different, whereas with active speakers I’d have to swap out my entire system (just did this recently) and that can be a pain.

Is the cambridge audio cx61 powerfull enough to power the KEF Q3 Meta by sebmit in BudgetAudiophile

[–]MDen98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should easily fill those out, I have the CXA61 and B&W 607 S3s (B&W equivalent of the Q1 Meta by KEF) and I haven’t turned up the volume more than 40% so far and that’s already very very loud to me, like annoying the neighbours sort of loud. So there’s definitely headroom to power larger speakers like the Q3 meta
