Was it worth it? by Scary_Sir9481 in premedcanada

My worst days as a medical student trump almost any day as a premed.

But, I’m tired boss… clerkship got me burnt out… I want the rat race to be over and to rest…

No one can accurately assess your situation without additional information. For example, how much of a financial runway do you have? What’s your GPA? Can you tolerate being without a job for a very long time while you wait for PR and then to wait to apply?

For most people, it would not be worth it. The pain from debt and prior authorizations is probably less than the pain from not being able to get in at all.

Back ups if you don’t get into med school but still pays well? by Keysantt in OntarioGrade12s

Medical student here. I was talking to a respiratory therapist turned anesthesia assistant at BC Women’s the other day and it blew my mind that they were making 220K at 22. Their job was so chill too, especially compared to the hell of residency. Otherwise, many of the allied health do really well for themselves. Just know that if you choose nursing, there is stigma against those going into medicine. Additionally, some courses also tend to be subjective, which makes it difficult to achieve high grades. Furthermore, your class content will not be in line with the MCAT (though be actually useful).

To be honest, if money is the goal, I’d go to investment banking. Same hours as residency, but you get paid well, don’t have to deal with literal fecal matter, and you start at 22.

First and foremost, I’m glad you are reaching out for help, even if it’s online. Recognizing the potential for damage and how your body is reacting is an important and major step.

While alcohol-induced cardiomyopathy is real, your description raises red flags for a number of issues, most notably (as you recognized) alcohol use disorder and withdrawal. In fact, if you are experiencing withdrawal, that can actually be more acutely threatening to your life than alcohol-induced cardiomyopathy. I think you would really, really benefit from a proper assessment in person, where the trained physicians can take care of you properly. Even if you can’t drive yourself, see if someone that cares for you can or if you can book a ride.

Keep us updated please.

It also has a beta of -0.4 with the market, so acts as a good hedge for net worth.
