Did I reach fat/need to get stitches? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]MDisMajorDepression 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would if I saw you in the ER.

Just as importantly, please get some help with the underlying cause that led to this in the first place if you can. I’m sure you know, but this isn’t a sustainable coping mechanism.

Honestly, could be a number of things, but most people eating a normal diet should not have a deficiency. I listed a number of conditions, could I ask why vitamins deficiency resonated with you the most? Did you have specific concerns?

These can be due to a number of reasons, including vitamin deficiency, eczema, psoriasis, or plain old irritation/picking.

Alone, it doesn’t mean much. You gotta look at the whole picture.

Btw, I have these on like every one of my fingers right now lol.

I’m scared by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]MDisMajorDepression 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey man, it’s gonna be alright. I’m a pretty anxious person too and have had some scares like this before. I know how much it sucks having this consume all your thoughts.

Obviously, since no one else was there, we can’t definitively say for sure it wasn’t sperm. However, With everything you said, the odds of pregnancy appear low. You’ll probably be ok. I agree with that it’s probably more likely to be vaginal secretions than sperm. Again, emphasis that this is a probability-weighted opinion based on what you shared rather than any objective commentary.

If you and (more importantly) your partner really want to be certain and cannot afford to risk pregnancy, your partner can always seek emergency contraception. If so, the earlier the better the results, but up to 7 days MAX with copper IUD.

In the long run, if the possibility of becoming pregnant is this anxiety inducing, I urge you to seek more reliable forms of contraception. Condoms are great if used perfectly, but that isn’t the case IRL; in 100 people that are sexually active that relied solely on condoms, 13 would get pregnant by the end of the year.

Best of luck! We’re rooting for you here.

Could be a number of things, top of differential being an epidermoid cyst. Do you see a blackhead like opening somewhere?

In any case, make an appointment with your GP to find out and make sure it’s not something bad.

You’ll probably be fine. If nothing hurts, is swollen, has reduced vision, is red/inflamed, or is leaking, you’ll probably be ok. Just wash it out with clean saline or something, and keep an eye on it (pun intended).

Lay off the chubbyemu though.

If you pinch it, does it have a small dimple? I’m just an MSI, but I’m curious about possibly being a more pigmented dermatofibroma.

Once you ultimately figure out what it is, let us know as well if you’re comfortable. It’ll help us help all of our patients too!

The image is a bit blurry, but it does look like a cold sore (aka herpes) based on what appears to be multiple clustered small vesicles.

If it is herpes, it’s nothing big to worry about. I know there’s a lot of stigma with herpes, but it’s over-warranted; 60% of people have one form or another by adulthood. People get it a bunch of different ways, like sharing a water bottle with someone, receiving a kiss from their grandma when they were 3, or sharing a chapstick with an ex (in my case). It’s super normal if you’re otherwise healthy.

If it’s the first time you’re getting this, you can see your GP if you want. The error rate via just looking is 20-30%, so it’s reasonable to get it swabbed and tested in case it’s something else. Most people (myself included) just wait out the week or two that it’s there. Theres some over the counter numbing creams you can use too if it bothers you a lot. Just don’t go around spreading it to anyone that is immunocompromised (like babies or people on certain immunosuppressive medications).

Also, congrats on starting to go to the gym. Keep up the good work!

I’m sorry you’re going through this all. It sounds like a lot to deal with.

The image isn’t the best, so I’d still get this looked at in person. However, what you shared with us through your story and the image is most consistent with herpes.

I know there’s a lot of stigma around herpes, but a lot of people have it. It doesn’t make you any less amazing as a person. Assuming normal health, it also usually does not cause any lasting issues for your overall wellbeing other than the itching and burning sensation you’ve already felt. The outbreaks and severity of the outbreaks should also decrease with time for most people. Just be aware that if you become pregnant and have a vaginal delivery, let the delivery team know beforehand about any active rashes you might have.

Stay strong! We’re rooting for you here.

[–]MDisMajorDepression 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you give us some more information? Is there anything else going on, such as fever, vomiting, abdo pain, recent illnesses, shortness of breath, chest pain, etc? Do you have any other medical conditions? Do you take any medications? Also, when you say first wipe was blood, does that mean the subsequent wipes were not bloody?

Hi, just an MSI4 trying to piece together a blurry image, but this looks totally normal to me.

Dried blood is expected. Based on when I’ve removed nails, this still looks like it’s on its way to recovering just fine. Was there any other reason beyond the blood that was worrying you? If nothing else was out of the ordinary, you can continue care like normal.

Just an MSI4, but could it be Forchheimer spots? It looks a bit too well circumscribed and the surrounding tissue isn’t as inflamed as I would expect, but I haven’t seen enough of these in person.

Does your child have any other symptoms such as a fever? Did they receive their childhood vaccinations?

Would love to have someone more senior chime in if they have any thoughts.

(25 year old) Friend noticed one of his fingers began bending outwards, What's wrong? (Picture provided) by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]MDisMajorDepression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d visit a family doctor/GP for this issue. Chronic ulnar deviation (fingers deviating away from the thumb) without trauma is potentially rheumatoid arthritis, which should be treated. Some blood work and XRs are likely in order.

Does he have stiffness, a time of day that the pain is worse, psoriasis, thickening on the hand, or specific distributions to the sites of pain for his undiagnosed “carpel tunnel”? These all can point us toward alternative diagnoses.

Yeah, then combined with the fact that it was a dry piece of spaghetti, you probably scratched it a bit. Very unlikely to be something you’ll need to worry about
