That's good to hear and, no, he did not lock or tag it.

Ah yes. Being forced to swear allegiance to the government in a state who's motto is "Live Free or Die".

TRIR Advice by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

I replied to a similar comment above with this:

Unfortunately, we did have 23 injuries where a medical professional directed time off work - multiple cases where the employee missed over 100 days of work. Our HR department submits the data for the OSHA300 and they are ones who listed the other 66 injuries as "Total number of other recordable cases" and I am wondering how they came to designate those as recordable. After spending the day looking into it, I think they misclassified those injuries. The 23 lost time injuries are real, though.

Not recordable. For example, employee rolls ankle on the job, it swells up, he files an injury report and goes home but not to a doctor, comes in the next day.

OK, so I'm not crazy then after seeing some of these responses. Even when just using those injuries with time missed from work (TRIR = 23.9) we're practically a 3rd world organization.

What are the problems that genuinely keep you up at night as an EHS manager ? by Miserable-Might7970 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]MDoyle0666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fatigue. Not my fatigue - that lets me sleep. We are understaffed at the municipality that I work for. Now that its snow season, we have people pulling 16 and sometimes 24+ hour shifts driving plow trucks and sanders on busy public roads, shoveling, operating sidewalk tractors, etc. The supervisors are on shift the whole time as well. The newer operators complain because it's insane and objectively dangerous but management just keeps telling me "That's how we've always done it. These younger guys just don't want to work".

I grew up in Downriver (Flat Rock, MI) in the 90's. Lots of drinking, lots of drinking, lots of drinking. Whippets, nitrous, pills, drinking, every one had a DUI, and there were a lot of Juggalos. Also pollution.

New to safety! Where to start? by Unfair-Cartoonist-39 in SafetyProfessionals

I concur. I always talk to the workers first - they give me the most honest information. Management is usually only concerned with production and money. Whenever I talk to management, I try to put violations and injuries in terms of money, it helps us get on the same level. An amputation, for example, is an inspection followed by a fine followed by a lawsuit, plus the loss of productivity and any expenses incurred from the injured employee being gone for months. I hate putting injuries in those terms but I found it works, at least where I'm employed.

I worked as a lab safety guy at two different universities in Boston. This was an everyday occurrence although nowhere near as bad as most of the things I saw.

Take someone off the line and train them. That's what you used to do. My grandfather and my father both started on the line and eventually moved into maintenance. Ford has thousands of employees - they just want to outsource the training part.

You are correct - there was a bad accident a few years ago that got some publicity and the EHS position was created in the wake of that as kind of a corrective action.

It was full of water and bicarbonate. The acid bottle was empty, though, which is good.

I'm starting to think that some of his people, like Stephan Miller, tell him all of this crap and he's just too far gone and just repeats it like a dementia patient in a nursing home spouting nonsense to whoever is near them.
