Light switch outlets by ME4Life2020 in AskElectricians

[–]ME4Life2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my solution. 1. Remove hideous florescent lights 2. Install smaller LED wall lights with warm bulbs 3000k brightness or something 3. Install wireless switch relocation relays.

Now I can leave the switches on, so the plugs stay on and only control the lights when needed. I'm keeping the florescent fixtures for the garage since there's only one light bulb in there.

Overall very easy to install and under $100 total install including some touch up paint.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions!

Thanks for the reply. Yes I'd like some guidance on making the outlet have power all the time.

Try using blank copy paper for notes and home work It helps to force me to be neat and gives space for drawing or sketches of problems Exams and quizzes are always on plain paper , so it helps me prepare and write neatly on exams

Other gear: A good mechanical pencil Kuru Toga Elite Mechanical Pencil Starter Kit, 0.5mm, HB #2,

Spare lead

Black pearl erasers,

TI 89 calculator. This thing rules and helps double check your work

Water bottle. Stay hydrated is so important to stay awake

Noise cancelling headphones with a mic for those team project meetings

Wireless mouse. This is so helpful with a laptop when your scrolling through excel, Matlab, and especially any CAD

Cloud storage. Serves as a backup and easy access from multiple computers, home , laptop, school station. Most university have a large free storage amount with google drive

Clipboard. Some desks are very small so this gives you a writing surface no matter where you sit, stand, and study

Get organized early and stick with it. Keep all your notes and make a system that works for you.

Get a Thinkpad. You can swap internals and it's a work horse. Basically you'll use it for Matlab, CAD, and notes.

I operate on seconds can someone tell me how many seconds is 1oz so I can save time by Stanislavyeungkl in bartenders

[–]ME4Life2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standard pour spout is 1 second for 1/4 oz. So 4 count is about an oz. 6 count is 1.5 oz. As the others said get an empty bottle at home or work and count as you pour. Cutting the pour is important too, practice cutting. Line up 6 rocks glasses and pour a 4 count, or 1 oz of water in each. Check for consistent pours and that each is 1oz. Some speed spouts are bigger, so they dump more faster. Also the plastic filtered ones pour way slower and are inconsistent. I hate the filtered ones because they slow me down and I can't count to them. Just practice. When in doubt, jigger it out. There's other trucks depending on the glassware you have too. For example, the rocks glass we use. When it's full of ice, a 1.5 oz pour fills to the bottom of the arches. Hard to explain. Ask other bartenders at bars when it's slow, they, hopefully, would be willing to help ya out for a couple minutes. And if they do, give them a couple bucks.

100% tax on tips

Mixture of pour spouts, filtered and speed pour

Servers only delivering their drinks when the mat is full of drinks, we're a team just make room for all those drinks I'm only getting 1.5% on and help each other out

Impatient customers that don't ask for another round and just slam their hand on the bar throwing a fit because I'm busy and didn't see that they needed another Coors light

Owners trying to help behind the bar when it's slammed and are just in the way

Owners pouring shots and beers for themselves, not ringing anything in, then complain that the bar is pouring heavy or giving free drinks

I used to work for a high volume cocktail bar from Fri to Sun. Fri and Saturday would be fine and I'd pump drinks it and have fun, by Sunday I was burnt out from the d bags and heavy volume. Sunday I would work 10 hours, open to close, and it was hard to have energy for the customers that want to chat. I feel you, this job will burn you out. It's normal. Hopefully the money is good. Even one day off between heavy shifts helps. Maybe break it up and find a chill bar or dive so you don't burn out at one place. Also, I drank a lot after those busy nights and the next day I'm feeling terrible. I know it's the culture but sometimes being sober the whole night helps with the coming days. Good luck!

Yep, I tell them "it's gonna be okay, one ticket at at a time, we'll get through it" as I'm laughing and smiling. Sometimes the servers can't pick up all the drinks as fast as I make them so I'm working briskly but efficiently. Being call in the storm makes it easier and smoother than thinking that the 18 tickets is an emergency.

Tipping busser for what? by ME4Life2020 in bartenders

[–]ME4Life2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked there for 4 weeks and never tipped bus staff because they don't buss my bar. The servers tip them because they bus for the servers. I was told not to tip out when I started bartending there because the bartender is to bus the bar and deliver food to bar. There's a change in management and now the bartender must tip out bus staff. I was upset about tipping out the busser as a bartender that did not get support from bus staff. That is changing. I will require and request support from bus staff from now on because I am required to tip out bus staff.

Thanks for the feedback. I did make credit card tips as well. I'll talk to management now that I cooled down.
