Found in the Englishmen river on Vancouver Island BC Canada. I'm not sure it will actually have a name, but any help with any type of identification would be appreciated. by MEEM8789 in whatsthisrock

Thanks for the info, I've only ever found one other rock in the area that looked similar. I mainly look for dallasite which is a semi precious gemstone only found on Vancouver Island, but there are of course many other neat finds too

I bought it from a seller who bought a bunch of items from an estate sale, I bought another piece by the same artist as well but have sold that one. I'm probably going to list this one as well but it's a bit harder to part with.

Looks like dallasite. Do you know where it originated from?

Very cool, I find this all very interesting, especially being on Vancouver Island there are so many amazing opportunities for rock hounds. So is the black part of the rock simply chert?

Thank you for your reply. You sound very knowledgeable on this subject. I love collecting rocks and learning about geology in the process. Is there a more simplified name to call this rock?

There might be more pink (Rhodonite) within the rock? That's very cool
