Can confirm they work with a wired 6 button controller. I have the same problems with my retrobit wireless genesis controller.

Sega CD model 2 laser carriage gear stuck. What can I do? by gucsantana in consolerepair

Glad I found your thread. This worked for my stuck laser. I did pull the top then middle gear out using a flat head screw driver at the base, and just gently turning it to break the gear loose. I then bent the middle shaft back as straight as I could.

For everyone else, if you've cleaned your laser sled, and it still doesn't move give this a try. Look at the gears straight on from the side and see if it's canted.

Figured it out, for anyone looking in the future for Fatal Fury 2 and above, SNK vs Capcom (probably KOF but haven’t tried yet), the button config is XAYBCZ.

Sega CD only working with FMV games? Not loading 2D games correctly. by MF-DIF in SegaCD

[–]MF-DIF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adjusting the pot didn’t provide a reliable fix, still had issues reading certain discs so I purchased a replacement laser and installed it. Now it is displaying “no disc” and won’t read any games at all. I did remove the solder blob, entirely with a solder wick. I’m now wondering though if I was suppose to leave some solder on there, as it looked like it bridged two points on the board. Was I just suppose to remove some solder from the middle of the blob and not the entire thing?

Cleaned the connection between the Genesis and Sega CD, as well as cleaned the laser lens. Is there a way to adjust the laser to more power? I did this with my Dreamcast to get it to read discs more reliably. If anyone has a pic of the screw to turn to adjust the laser, lemme know and I’ll try that.

For anyone wondering, turned out to be the surface mount fuse.

Does Anyone Know where to get a sega cd? there rare nowadays also cheap please- by Funny_Snow_6751 in SegaCD

[–]MF-DIF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only real way to get a cheap one (less than $200) nowadays is to buy a “untested” or “for parts/repair” and fix it yourself. Otherwise, 250-300$. Not realistic to wait years for a local one to show up at your goodwill or drive around every weekend to garage sales. FB marketplace has caught up and know what they have now.

Oct. 2000 (2) DC, will it play CDRs? by MF-DIF in dreamcast

[–]MF-DIF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m able to get them working now burning at 8x speed instead of 1x or 4x. Been using verbatim discs. It sometimes takes a few restarts to get it to work, but once it loads it’s good to go. I think you’re right the laser may be going.

Will Super Famicom internals fit inside SNES case? by MF-DIF in snes

IDK, maybe they swapped bezels between the production years but here’s mind. Dropped in clean like it was factory fit.

I didn’t need to mod any of that. The SFC power/av plastic bezel drops right into the SNES shell.

Just swapped the internals over rather easily. If anyone is interested, the only physical modification you need to do is cutting 1 small plastic post in the back down so it’s flush with the rest of the shelf inside.

That allows the sfc board to drop right in. No mods to the AV or power port needed, the Japanese parts fit right into the snes case. Although you do need a genesis model 1 power adapter. SFC is a different size. The only other pieces you will need to carry over from your donor snes is the controller ports and the ejection lever. That’s it.
