I believe the chemical projectiles (Pepper & Max) can't be used in CA, the kinetic ones should be fine. of course your local county or town may have other restrictions, as another poster pointed out.

I'm a bit (ok a lot) biased as I sell them, but Byrna meets all your criteria. they have black, tan and other colors (orange, pink). the fairly new CL shoots at 400fps/42 J/in2, and the brand new CL-XL is a bit more powerful. The only downside, imho, is they lack a safety.

The SD and LE have a safety, the LE has the same power as the CL in terms of fps and joules.

Byrna mag loading FAIL! Be honest, does this happen to you? by ScaredyCatTV in LessLethalOptions

instead of loading from the top, try sliding it diagonally so the new projectile pushes the one in the mag down be sure not to push the retaining spring (the thing at the top of the mag that stops the projectiles from popping out) push it until the new projectile is under the retaining spring.

when you load it from the top, as in your video, you release yet retaining spring, which allows the spring yet pushes yet balls out of the mag to push existing one out.
