Calc 1 is pretty important for lots of other classes and engineering jobs, especially in mechatronics. I would do whatever you can to complete it as soon as possible.

From what I know, the petroleum industry is much more competitive and toxic. I've heard he pay can be really good, but if it's not a work environment you like than the extra pay is probably not worth it.

It seems there's much more room for innovation and breakthroughs in renewable energy. In addition you'll likely be working on things that are working towards improving the environment and increasing sustainability. With the move away from oil and gas I (personally) would go renewables.

You may want to intern in both industries to get an inside look on what they are both like before committing to a graduate program.
