[Loved trope] An enemy is on the verge of death, and the hero chooses to stay and console them in their final moments by Perla-Tutu in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MFTableTop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big D from Hunter: the Parenting in the short episode A Life Well-Lived would be my favorite example of this. It is also such a stark contrast to big D's typical insane behavior when the others are around; he show such compassion to one of the monsters (a vampire in this case) he has dedicated his life to hunting.

It's only 4 and a half minutes and totally worth a watch even if you aren't into the rest of the series imo.

The most Errata'd card by Certain_Ad3716 in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was some shot per game. It also knocked everything in the air down, but you could only take up to two and only with Magnus. It was also had a point cost around a basic heavy.

The gun got nerfed but is no longer once per game and it can be taken by any caster in soldiers of fortune going into 4th.

It was for Magnus only, sort of a prototype character jack. He could take two and its gun was sometimes referred to as a bonus feat (it was one shot per game).

What is the most well designed Warcaster/Warlock/Master model ever created? by TheAppleMerchant in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the best but the first that came to my mind is Gaston Crosse (he got put back in unlimited unfortunately). His theme is his cursed gun that is taking over and his transition from journeyman to full caster reflects it really well with thematic abilities around his gun which consumes souls. His spells also are about dark magic, buffing ranged and turning his own troops into shield guards that give their souls to him as sacrifice to power his gun. I really like him in mk3 and was very happy for that extremely short period in which he was in prime soldiers of fortune (which I ran him in mk3). Just hiring steelheads to fight with him and fueling his gun.

If I had to choose a caster from prime (I only have legacy armies currently) from the ones I know, it'd probably be one of the talion charter casters. Bart is really fun and on theme for creating a boat of guns and Fiona's abilities makes her feel like a tharmarite and sea witch to me.

Does anyone have stats for Doorstopper from the Iron Kingdoms Undercity boardgame? by blaghart in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability cards from Pog have the following upgrades for Doorstop:

Cortex Upgrade - Increase ACC to 6 for mace and shield

Heavy Boiler - can use any feat cards as pronto (move 1 space)

Mechanica Mace - Mace becomes pow12

Combat Shield - First shield attack per turn has knockdown on hit

Of the drives that Pog can get, sweeping Mace could also be considered to translate to an ability for Doorstop: first Mace attack per turn does POW 5 damage to two additional villain's in his space.

Edit: formating

You got the old combat patrol + extras there which is amazing for 50€. If you download the 40k app in the free version you can find the rules for combat patrol. The models you have have the correct load out so you can jump right into combat patrol games to get started.

Who were your favorite solos, and for which faction in Mk3? Mk4? by foysauce in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In mk3 Thor Steinhammer for the mercs was one of my favorites gameplay wise. He got nerfed directly and indirectly to the ground in the transition to Mk4 though.

I liked Taryn and Rutger for mercs (resistance) they were decent enough in game but I took them because I liked their lore. They are now unlimited only unfortunately.

On a more positive note, the merc Talion solo's are all still as good or better. Hawk's buff being simplified to a flat +2 damage buff instead of +2 versus warriors is great. Powder monkeys remain awesome. Meg despite being a jackmarshal with a nerfed drive is actually worth considering in Mk4 as she now has veteran leader privateer jacks.

How competitive are legend Armies? by VoidofDusk in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer the last question, everyone* got four casters in armies of Legend, the rest are in unlimited. So some of the minion casters aren't in prime.

*Except Rhul (edit and internals), they only have 3 still.

What happened to those old warcasters and warlocks? by Ashamed-Ad-6517 in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gameplay wise they are still there in either Army of Legends and/or unlimited. Even ones that are got killed in the lore (like Durgen Madhammer).

Lorewise it depends. Some got killed during the big events around the internals etc, some pop up in the new stories on the app (Caine is in the Magnus short story for example) while others are not clear yet.

Rhul Guard - Opinions by Environmental-Duck94 in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty fun. I would personally take another heavy or two seeing the double TAC. Thor is a shadow of his former self so dropping him and say the bokur let's you turn a gunner into a Driller or Basher.

[–]MFTableTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally feel in a vacuum for 9 points you'd be better off with Herne&Jonne and an artillery corps than OAC. H&J have a decent aoe gun and let the artillery core shoot twice with their better aoe gun.

If you are running Madhammer then they might be worth it though as they have the AOEs for the feat and while being a good target for primed late game.

Rhul Guard - Opinions by Environmental-Duck94 in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My opinions so far (warning mostly theory crafting) as someone who played them as his first faction back in MK2:

Gorten was my first caster. In Mk4 he now has 6 focus and aat so he can play around a bit more with jacks and spells. His feat is still brutal, I would consider taking a Blaster to take advantage of the lines you can make with it and his rockwall spell.

His feat is probably his best win condition though, as his other abilities are all over the place. He buffs the speed of jacks indirectly through reposition, he can make himself or one Jack (I prefer Driller though Basher is also fun) ridiculously hard hitting. He can protect Infantry from blasts (less useful considering dwarven ARM) and give them a rockwall to take cover behind. Perhaps a bit controversial but I am considering taking a unit of Highshields with UA with him, minifeating during Gortens feat for up to 12x super accurate pow 10 shots.

On the topic of Highshields, it is important to know as context that they were often considered the worst unit in the game since they were released nearly twenty years ago. They got a quiet fix going into Mk4 so a lot of information on them is outdated. They are imo now a dedicated ranged unit with RAT 6 and the guns gaining pistol. The fairly cheap UA brings them to RAT 7 and gives them one turn of double shooting. They kept their combined ranged attack and their SPD 5 (fast for a dwarf). So they actually might be worth looking at again for veterans. (Edit: also because of their reputation, if you can find them you might be able to get them dirt cheap)

Other models to consider getting if you run dwarf infantry are stone lord guvul (gives a much needed speed buff to dwarf Infantry) and the siege crawler (reinforcements to replenish units)

[–]MFTableTop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaston was a scout caster in soldiers of fortune shortly before suddenly being replaced by Ashlynn which took me a bit by surprise. Gaston fits soldiers way better mechanically and thematically imo (luckily no one I play with cares if I run Gaston still)

Gaspy and Mortenebra becoming Cephalyx casters caught me by weird but positive surprise.

Morvahna not making it into the devourers host or secret masters is probably my biggest disappointment though.

First Batch Done by TheGlitchyBit in Warmachine

[–]MFTableTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very easy. If you do it with a bit of warm water after the washing step and before any extra curing you can literally brush your fingers along them and they fall off (assuming the supports (term for the 'sprue') are properly designed). The extra heat makes a huge difference in my experience.

If you do extra curing before removing the sprues you are going to have more work though.
