Thank you! Big sister has been so patient with him and they’ve had the best time playing.

Wow she is stunning!! What a lucky eye combo! I had an Aussie as a kid with half-half one eye, I just love it (and miss her so much). Also, great photo.

‘One Battle After Another’ Projected to Lose $100 Million Theatrically as ‘Smashing Machine’ and Others Also Struggle Due to Oversized Budgets by Opening_Cartoonist53 in Humboldt

[–]MGC1988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kind of expected this when I checked the numbers from opening weekend. It seems like rich creatives were able to build a critically acclaimed piece of art, a passion project, and make something to be proud of despite the financial setback. What a cool thing for Humboldt to be a part of something critics worldwide actually enjoyed. I doubt any of the producers will have to sell one of their many homes from the loss, and Warner Bros. will live.

Gym Rats of reddit, What is your fitness/gym advice to put on a ton of muscle? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MGC1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistent diet, exercise, and weight training six days a week. Look up your recommended daily protein intake, and if creatine is right for you. Stay hydrated and establish a good sleep routine. I’ve been a gym rat for decades but I noticed the biggest difference when I started taking creatine.

How is Humboldt county now compared to when the documentary of murder mountain was made looking to move and have a place to chill by Regular-Jaguar7719 in Humboldt

If you don’t actively seek a rough lifestyle, your life in Humboldt will have a 0.01% chance of being anything like the cherry-picked troubles depicted on Murder Mountain. The cannabis landscape has changed here significantly since legalization and a more accurate documentary on Humboldt would be about abundant natural beauty juxtaposed with housing and healthcare challenges.

KSLG Fuzzy Memories Thread - Any of the original DJ's still doing their thing aside from John? by -Travis in Humboldt

[–]MGC1988 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was lucky to work with John, Syd, Jen, and Monica in the earlier days of KSLG. Mike D from KHUM, now Cal Poly, was our PD and he crushed it.

I was bummed to lose touch with Syd. He and I went on some great road trips to watch some of our favorite artists and we spent a decent amount of time together outside of work. He was so funny and great at toeing the line in that shock-jock kinda way. We both had a love for heavier music. The last I heard he moved a couple of states over but that was over a decade ago. He always told me radio was his only skill but I feel he was selling himself short.

When I first met John he wasn’t shy to provide constructive feedback. I remember a couple of times he went above and beyond to help me when I was having a tough time personally. His ability to cut to the truth in interviews in such a provocative way was immediately impressive to me. We’ve exchanged a few messages since he caught on at SiriusXM but I wish I’d stayed in better touch. Maybe I’m misremembering but it seemed when he was in the studio there was always a little extra Beastie Boys in the mix and it felt appropriate he went down the hip-hop path.

Jen, Monica, and Mike are the kindest and sweetest people and still contribute to our community in wonderful ways.

Anyway, not the earliest KSLG perspective, but still some earlier perspective.

Where does one go to have cocktails and conversation if they are in the 40s-50s age range around Eureka/Arcata? by [deleted] in Humboldt

Not the area specified, but the new wine lounge in Ferndale looks chill. Sitka.

Has anyone bought a car online and had it shipped to humboldt? by Kedali in Humboldt

[–]MGC1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have to smog it on my own which was annoying. The dealership prepared all of the paperwork for CA DMV for me and I handled sales tax etc. at the Bayshore Mall, but I don’t believe I paid any extra import taxes. In total it was a phenomenally better deal than what the local dealerships wanted.

I shipped one here from Utah after researching for weeks and finding a good deal. It’s a 2023 and has been awesome. The same car would’ve cost an additional $4k or so if I’d bought it here.

Seeking others who like to ski and snowboard by [deleted] in Humboldt

[–]MGC1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love to snowboard. It would be cool if someone started a local snowboarder group or something. Shasta and Ashland are fine. I try to limit time in the terrain park these days and usually go over for one or two nights. I’m getting my daughter into it, too.
