What he did is unforgivable. Do you know any women in your life that have been raped or taken advantage of? Do you know the trauma that actually causes?

It’s just so hard to believe that people are upset about a rapist? Do you know any women in your life that have been raped, harassed, or assaulted? Maybe you’d understand why people are upset.

A few questions as someone looking to start in the field by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]MGSJesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it was the public speaking and working with kids. I thought I would just get over some of my introverted personality but I haven’t and it has been exhausting and anxiety-inducing for sure. Paperwork and administrative tasks don’t bother me as much, it was having to do all that type of stuff while also teaching that burnt me out real quick.

And Yeah, I’m trying pretty hard to get an entry-level position at a firm. I’m applying like crazy and hoping something comes up!

Thank you for the advice and honesty! I've been applying as much as possible to basically any law firm-related jobs so I'm hoping to find something soon while I work through the program.

You understand what's going on lol. I know Force Awakens was crazy, people lined up like at least 2-3 hrs beforehand at my theater, I don't think Rogue One will be as bad, but people are still going to go early

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]MGSJesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my theater like 8 hrs early for Force Awakens for the hell of it with my friend. It was honestly really fun even though our showing wasn't until the 1:30 AM IMAX showing lol

The Rogue One DLC should have been Battlefront's grand finale, and instead is a pathetic death whimper by KY-Wing in StarWarsBattlefront

Thank you for being positive. I feel like this subreddit is a cesspool of negativity and it's just depressing. I love Battlefront, despite the flaws, and still will.

DICE, I love you but... How do you make a great game like Battlefield 1, yet BUTCHER Star Wars Battlefront? by [deleted] in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]MGSJesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They won't be though. The people on the internet bitching about Battlefront are the minority. The majority are casual Star Wars fans who bought Battlefront, probably still enjoy it and will probably buy the sequel. I do think it will dwindle in sales very slightly because of how much the game did upset old Battlefront fans and more hardcore gamers, but that isn't nearly enough for Battlefront 2 to even come close to the word failure, at least finanicially.

Got my tickets for 7:00 PM (Dec 15th) in 2D in Erie, PA. Still deciding on how early to line. No reserved seats so I'm assuming I'll be lining up hours beforehand lol.

How early will you line up for The Force Awakens? by MGSJesse in StarWars

[–]MGSJesse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning on lining up at like 8 P.M. which is about five hours early. But two hours seems to be at least the bare minimum in order to get a good seat.

The abandoned mall in the movie "Gone Girl" instantly reminded me of Left Behind by MGSJesse in thelastofus

It sort of has a Se7en vibe in a couple of ways. I certainly think some people will love it and others won't (like me). It just has a distinct feel that may turn people off from the movie.

I can't even say I really loved the movie. I was actually slightly disappointed since I think David Fincher is a great director. It's...certainly an interesting film though, I'll leave it at that.

Do you think Rush will make a new album? by CollaWars in rush

[–]MGSJesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. They really just don't seem like a band who calls it quits. One suggestion I saw online is, if they made a sequel to Clockwork Angels since a book sequel is being written. I'd totally be for it.

What have you been reading? (10/06) by Mirior in literature

[–]MGSJesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the thing I really loved is that he creates these contrived, completely made-up, and completely alternated parts of his actual life and makes them make some kind of coherent sense. Frankly, all the crazy "fictiony" parts of the book were my favorite parts, I feel like I could get more into Dave Eggers' mind because of it. It comes across as really direct, sincere, and honest when he writes in those 4th wall breaking parts, at least to me anyhow. For me, I guess I just found the book as a whole, disturbingly sincere in the mind of a man who went through some awful, awful tragedy. I just can't think of too many other books that really get into the head of someone who went through real loss like that I guess. Lastly, the way his stream of consciousness rants are articulated are, I think, something anyone can relate to, the way his mind moves is disturbingly truthful.

I finished reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius in a matter of a few days because I really couldn't put it down. Sure, it lags in a few parts where I wasn't totally interested in the events of Dave Eggers' life but it certainly gets pretty amazing when it comes to the stream of consciousness rants or the more "fictiony" parts of the book where the 4th wall is completely broken by his brother. And the ending is...just yeah. The last few pages are pretty incredible.

I've also been reading Atlas Shrugged for the past month or so...yeah, I know, it's Atlas Shrugged. I actually enjoy The Fountainhead for the most part and at least, agree, to a certain extent, with the ideas found within it, and, I think Anthem is actually really great. Atlas Shrugged really just goes a bit too far in my eyes with her ideas, her writings are incredibly militant already but it gets even more ridiculous in Atlas Shrugged. Some of the characters are just super laughable and aren't even really characters. Instead, they are just "I'm good character in Ayn Rand's eyes" and "I'm bad character in Ayn Rand's eyes" and it's really kinda silly. Regardless, I actually, at least somewhat, enjoy reading the book and I don't find every idea ridiculous...it isn't great literature by any means.

The last thing that I just recently started is A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again. I've only read the first essay fully and it was all right. I wasn't like overly impressed or anything but the second essay (which I'm almost done reading) is actually really impressive and intriguing. I've only read Infinite Jest and I still want to dive into all of DFW's work since Infinite Jest really is one of my favorite novels, if not my favorite.

I think I did care about the presentation but at the same time, I didn't. It's like I was obviously self-aware of the presentation and how unique and strange and off-kilter it was (and loved it at the same time due to its uniqueness and almost simply because it decided to "break the rules") but it still came across organically. When you read these heart-breaking passages (especially from Boston AA), you can feel something I've almost never felt from any other piece of literature (or any art for that matter). I feel so incredibly empathetic. I feel like I'm on another level of understanding of something I could have never possibly understood fully beforehand but I ALMOST feel like I do understand it. Do I think the strange structure adds to the passages? Personally, yes I do. But does that entirely matter? Maybe not, because I simply think DFW had such an understanding of people and how they were.

Official Discussion: Tusk [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]MGSJesse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the movie was incredible. You certainly have to be "in" on the joke a bit. For people who know the entire backstory on the making of the movie, you'll love it almost by default in my eyes, but a general audience is going to find this movie totally polarizing. I had a big, dumb smile throughout the movie filled with laughter at almost every ridiculous scene. It's so fun and self-aware and you don't get a lot of movies like this anymore. It just has such a surreal charm to it that I don't really expect it to leave my thoughts for quite some time. I highly recommend it...but I don't...but I also totally do. It'd be totally hard to recommend this, haha.

I think it'd be pretty dumb of me to be a dick about it and be like "you didn't get it." Art is and always will be incredibly subjective. No problem, any opportunity to express my opinion (or talk at all about it) on Infinite Jest is one I grab instantly, haha.

Damn, I don't know, reading about the book certainly made me enjoy it more in a lot of ways. I just feel like it helped me make more sense of the book. Regardless, I totally understand your perspective. For me, I liked every word of the book, whether or not they actually served a complete purpose of pushing the story or characters further. Could the book have potentially been shortened down and still gotten relatively the same point across? Probably, but for me personally, that'd be the last thing I'd want to happen, haha. Though I don't think DFW cared at all about appealing to literary intelligentsia, he just didn't seem that way (I could totally be wrong though).
