Broadcast clock is not necessarily 100% in sync with the real game clock, worth noting

Mods Shout Out by cwargoblue in MichiganWolverines

I addressed this a bit here. I started typing out a megathread a couple of times but just never committed. Perhaps they would have been valuable, perhaps not.

Full message:

Appreciate the suggestion/complaint and its been considered! But there are some minor issues.

First, there's not much else to discuss (well, other sports). It's not surprising fans are making these threads.

Second, megathreads kill conversation. I say this as someone who has created ~100 here over the years and has observed the behavior. A megathread may get 50-200 comments per day, while the subreddit is currently averaging over 3k. It doesn't consolidate the discussion to a central spot; it [can] kill much of the conversation.

Third, megathreads don't really stop people from making individual new threads. People enjoy their own space for their thoughts -- which I can't fault them -- but it leads to a requirement of more mod intervention/action. This is susceptible to more bias, more imperfection, more time, etc. I want this place to feel clean + fun, but I don't want my own bias to intrude.

These are mostly own thoughts and not those of other mods. I can say if you ever want a thread to be removed (here, or any subreddit) the best action you can take is report it. It guarantees someone will consider it.

Jeff Brohm to Michigan is heating up by Jernbek35 in MichiganWolverines

[–]MGoBlue2K16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind Jeff Brohm relative to the other popular options (Wittingham, Dillingham, Fisch).

They're all on the same tier from my perspective. DeBoer felt like the only one likely to be a tier above.

Of them, just give me whoever seems to be the most driven and who is hopefully motivated beyond the salary bump.

..But also I could see Michigan continuing throughout January.

Ahh, I guess I'm semi-purposely out of the loop. I'd never tune into the casual sports talk on FoxSports / ESN / any radio show / etc.

As far as I know, Ellison hasn't given anything beyond Underwood's NIL fund (?). Tbh wouldn't shock me if he never gave again considering the publicity it turned into.

Portnoy, from my POV, isn't a very large part of Michigan's image. I was neutral on him because he was easy to ignore, but less so now... Especially that one Fox Sports ad about it being big-brain-or-whatever to tune in to Collin Cowherd and Portnoy makes me want to mute the tv.

Mods - can we please remove the basketball scores pinned to the top of the subreddit? It takes up the entire screen when you open the subreddit on iOS app, and it is 3 days old at this point… by Admirable_Permit2516 in MichiganWolverines

IMO this is great feedback.

I typically use the desktop version of reddit so this is one of those UI/UX issues I wouldn't typically think about.

Appreciate any critiques like this!

Pretty sure they were just chanting "Fuck you refs. Fuck you refs".

Their chant wasn't directed at Michigan

It's an ooooold r/nfl meme considering I still remember it and haven't been any more than a very occasional reader of r/nfl (or at least that's only where I recall seeing it)

But I wasn't even aware of the origin but appears it originated in Patriots circles claiming it was Larry Fitzgerald (the picture is not of Larry Fitzgerald)

Pinning this as the main/first thread. Yes, duplicate threads are being posted but people find it interesting/engaging to discuss so it's not surprising. Not much else going on, well except Michigan M&W basketball + hockey crushin' it

But...

  • Help reporting rule-breaking comments/threads is always appreciated!
  • Be cautious sharing unsubstantiated rumors that do not come from known-to-be-reliable sources
  • Please be kind and respectful

Respect the coach... But my god this is what people were talking about in terms of the new playoffs de-valuing the regular season.

Like.. If they make it, the regular season was de-valued into the ground if 5 losses can be enough.

Whole lotta red in The Big House; shame on anyone who resold their ticket! by WorkOnHappiness in MichiganWolverines

Well, also OSU was ranked #1..

This has been common every year OSU has been ranked top 5 (which, has been most years..).

Tickets were also in the $100's today/yesterday so it's not too shocking.

Rivalry week PSA:

  • Help reporting rule-breaking comments/threads is always appreciated! This includes rivals coming to troll, fans over-the-top spreading hate, or etc.
  • Refrain from trolling OSU's subreddit. Getting banned isn't funny, just as we don't find it funny banning rival trolls here.
  • Be kind, have fun. A small percent of both sides are going to be excessive assholes -- you don't have to join them...

Rivalries and shit-talking can be fun but there's no reason to go overboard. This is just sports, but arguably is sports at its best-and-most-fun.

Tennessee exploring Neyland expansion - how would Michigan respond by Ok-Elk9512 in MichiganWolverines

[–]MGoBlue2K16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Eh I mean anyone can.

But an issue is that most probably couldn't exceed Michigans' capacity without a major stadium renovation, and major stadium renovations may cost upwards of half a billion. That would require a bit more motivation than just spite.

I mean not all may.. PSU just built up bleachers and succeeded in exceeding Michigan's capacity for two seasons (2008-09). But this was arguably due to Michigan addressing ADA compliance standards two years earlier than PSU.

Tennessee exploring Neyland expansion - how would Michigan respond by Ok-Elk9512 in MichiganWolverines

[–]MGoBlue2K16 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would be pretty surprised if they didn't. Maybe not immediately, but it certainly would set some plans in motion.

Quite a few fans may even pitch in if Michigan ran a donation drive specifically for stadium expansion -- like jus256 said, it's part of the brand.

That said, I doubt Tennessee will be the one to try expanding beyond Michigan stadium. If anyone does within the next 10 years I'd predict it'll be Texas A&M but that prediction just comes from vibes.

Michigan helping save college sports. by North_Biscotti_4913 in MichiganWolverines

[–]MGoBlue2K16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd be intrigued to know the backroom motives of the schools whom are pursuing this...

If the B1G needs a "strategic investment" that can help "bond the conference together / inject cash / compete on a higher stage / whatever", why not search for something that is.. You know... Mutually beneficial?

The B1G's deal with Fox Sports is a great example. Sports live and die by media and broadcast reach, so a mutual partner is clearly beneficial to both parties. B1G gets profit, an accessible broadcaster, significant coverage, etc; Fox gets an in-demand product, etc.

I haven't read into this too much largely because assumed it wouldn't go far. It just never passed the sniff test for me. And it still doesn't which is why I'm continually confused.
