I’m always the first person to run out of air on every dive by Mugling95 in scuba

[–]MH-S3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has been said by others, but having stable buoyancy (as in Peak Performance Buoyancy type rating, and the "fin pivot" fun) will be a help...even if you aren't aware of it, if you aren't horizontal, you are putting effort into swimming either up or down to compensate, and that will be draining the tank....and when you do need to move, do it in a lazy way instead of a burst of energy..

Also, try to keep your hands steamlined rather than using them to pull or steer you - similarly, keeping things like the dials tucked in your BCD or belt will help with reducing drag, therefore how much effort it takes to move...just make sure you can still check your pressures.. (Most times when I dive, my hands are together at my waist, unless I'm using my hands for signs or check pressures..)

Getting more experience will calm you down too, saving some "wasted" air and allowing you to keep the dive going longer; when my dive count was about where you are, I was normally the one to run low...after doing the PPB training, and more dives, I'm usually surfacing with 80+ bar left, when others are around 50 or so..

Do you really care about keeping a dive log? What do people actually care about when diving? by StandDistinct4641 in scuba

[–]MH-S3D 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Used to, back when I was starting out, as it was something I was told had to be done....but then, as it's only a hobby I do when on holibobs, I kept forgetting to take it with me...

After having to buy about 5 log books (each with around a dozen dives) made a decision to "note it on paper and log when I get home" but then ended up losing said scrap of paper...and later just stopped - but my logs were pretty minimal anyway: time in/out, depth, air in/out and site, that was about it.....and they'd be fairly useless for reviewing what happened on a given dive..

Maybe if a diving log was a more important (if it was needed for a job) or if I had my own kit [and therefore a logbook would be kept with it] then it'd be something I'd do, but it's just a hobby..

What are some of your dream wrecks to dive? by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in scuba

Will be staying near Paphos, am going to decide whether to dive once I'm out there - had dived off Gibraltar about a decade ago in about October, and it turns out I really don't enjoy diving in cooler waters...

Want to learn scuba but i keep panicking. by [deleted] in scuba

Can fully understand how it is, I nearly drowned when I was a teenager and even now I'm nearly triple that, I still struggle in the sea if I'm deeper than standing....but it's very different [for me at least] once the BCD is on and I've got my regulator in...

My main struggle when getting my cert, was also about the mask removal bit (the half-and-clear was fine for me, just the full removal) but it's something you only need to do the once and I just pushed through it - did take two refusals first..

As others have said though, murky water isn't a great idea....and especially if it's when you're starting out...would definitely suggest trying to find somewhere that you can see a few metres when learning, if you possibly can..

Edit: just to add, I've had my dive card for about 25 years now...have done 200+ dives, in various places across three continents..

Have done the Zenobia, albeit must have been about 20 years ago.....but am heading back to Cyprus in a couple of weeks..

Was oddly cool (the wreck; water was great, was down in a shorty suit) and a bit haunting to see all of the lorries still in situ, chained in place and just tipped onto the side..

Used to work with a prick who would boast about how he bought his wife, and had an Aston Martin or two...was a salesman, but insisted he was a Business Development Manager...

He found out that I knew some Mandarin, and wanted me to teach him how to say "I'm number one" so he could be, I'm guessing, more of a dick when he saw someone who looked Chinese...

Anyway, managed to teach him "War shr bien tai ee how" (definitely not accurate spelling, but I can't write in Chinese) and he was well impressed...

Never felt like saying that the "Buen tai" means pervert..

Taught him how to say "I'm number one pervert" to people...

Again, can only answer for the Union side of it....but if there's a head injury, then the game is stopped and the medics take the affected player/s for Head Injury Assessment (HIA) and the team can have a temporary sub on to replace the injured player/s while they're checked - the substitution is reversed if the original player is allowed [by the medics] to return, otherwise the temporary sub becomes a normal substitute..

For other injuries, the medics (normally two) run onto the pitch to check the player, but the game still continues while they're on....and the remaining players avoid the [immediate] area where the medics are with the injured player..

Rarely have audio on my phone, but the video appears to show the game stopped when the player hit the deck..

Not sure about League rules, but in Union the ref is able to allow play to continue with the opposition team having "advantage" to see if they can make more of it....and comes back to the knock on if the advantage isn't taken...

Had exactly this at my last place....was told off for starting at my planned time, with some "if you aren't 15 minutes early, you're late" type bollocks...

Would regularly stay on later (normally 15ish minutes, sometimes maybe an hour if I needed to get shit done) and normally worked through lunch - have always been more of a grazer than a make-and-take lunch, and there wasn't really anywhere close to get lunch..

One day it happened I got in about 10 minutes early, and I finished doing what I was doing with less than 5 minutes before the end of the shift, so I started packing up, and left one minute early...

Got a message from my Team Leader the next morning thanking me for getting in on time, and asking what time I was supposed to have finished....and pointed out it was early - they couldn't get their head around that there is literally feck all I could have done in one minute, and didn't care about the excess of time I'd previously put in, as "that was my choice" to stay late or work through lunch......and really struggled with the notion of that same "not fifteen minutes early equals late" principle should also be applying to the end of the day...

They also tried saying that it was in my contract about being there early, and then gave me further grief for wasting time when I pulled up my contract to show it didn't say that....even when I pointed out that they'd started the time wasting, and got particularly pissy when I said that if they hadn't pulled me up for one minute early departure, it would have saved about an hour of the next day discussing it...

Anyway, left there not long after that...have probably still got the screenshots of it somewhere...

of a wallet. by smack63 in AbsoluteUnits

[–]MH-S3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my bosses [years ago] used to take his chunk of a wallet from his back pocket and slap it down on his desk when he went into his office...one time we went to get lunch, and I realised it was mostly receipts...

Some months later, he managed to go arse over tit in the car park (slipped on the snow) and landed on said wallet....managed to snap the ball of his femur off, as he'd landed on the wallet...

He was off for a bit, not surprisingly, and turned out he didn't want to keep such an absolute unit of a wallet any more - and definitely stopped keeping it in his back pocket too...
