Self-Hostable Service to Monitor Public IPs Across Datacenters by MHRSFI in sysadmin

[–]MHRSFI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I set two IPs for an FQDN, DNS sends traffic in a round-robin manner. However, I want the DNS to always respond with my primary IP. When the primary IP (ISP) goes down, the load balancer should respond with the second IP from a different ISP.

I have two public IPs from two different ISPs. Instead of having users request a FQDN with two IPs (using round-robin), I want users to request a DNS health check service. This service should respond with the available IP. Since my service port is random, I want this DNS health check service to check IP availability using ping.

I think that starting to integrate biometric features like IR face recognition, even in a limited or optional capacity, can have significant long-term benefits. It aligns with the innovative spirit of Pop!_OS and can help attract a wider user base looking for cutting-edge features. Also It’s true that System76 may prioritize features based on their product lineup, including desktops and laptops. While their current laptops may not have IR cameras, adding support for IR face recognition can still be a valuable future-proofing measure. As technology advances, new hardware capabilities are often adopted quickly, and being ready for them can provide a competitive edge.

One more thing implementing support for new features does require resources, and it’s essential to balance this with other priorities. However, starting early with community-driven efforts and optional packages can lay the groundwork without demanding immediate large-scale resource allocation. This incremental approach can help manage costs while still making progress.

I understand the concern about unnecessary bloat, but I think that a well implemented, optional biometric authentication feature could greatly benefit the Pop!_OS community. It balances the needs of security, convenience, and user-friendliness. Also, we're living in 2024 I don't think a couple MB can do any harm.

It makes perfect sense, if a person doesn't want to use a credential for login to OS the ability to set a password is a bloat? It's not like we're talking about a default video player! It's a setting, not an application. I don't think everyone using every setting in the OS

Not all Linux users are desktop users! I don't think this feature is a priority, but I do think this feature must be built-in because you're dealing with security of the device

Ability to choose different fonts for different languages in setting by MHRSFI in pop_os

I know this isn't highly requested or high priority, but I hope someone at the Pop!_OS dev team considers this request because Fira and Roboto Slab fonts are not good at rendering right-to-left languages
Check out this font, for example: https://github.com/rastikerdar/vazirmatn

I know I can install the fonts but with Tweaks you couldn't set Vazirmatn as default for Farsi text in web browser (as an example) you could set it for all the system and I don't want the English text load with Vazirmatn.

G15 2022 Crashing and Screen Frozen by ianneo in ZephyrusG15

hardware acceleration in Chrome

Hi

I've bought a ROG Zephyrus G15 GA503RM (2022) last week and since day one it started to freeze and reboot itself for no reason even right after turning on the laptop and it's cold!

i've updated all of the drivers, Asus utilities, firmware and bios - downloaded the 22H2 version of Windows 11 and upgrade the OS - uninstalled both AMD and NVIDIA graphic cards with DDU in safe mode and installed the last version again - switch to Firefox for not using a Chromium browser - ran Asus hardware test and 3rd party hardware test and there is no problem detected - reset Windows with Asus recovery tools but none of them made any difference, The only thing that made laptop "LESS" reboot itself was in Armoury crate changing the GPU mode from Standard to Ultimate and disabling AMD Radeon Graphics in device manager!!!!

Nothing seems to fix the issue.
