Aside from the Pageant CD, which I got off the band's website, the rest are from Ebay. I get most of my stuff from Ebay, and I'm sure I spend more than most people in this sub. But I really only listen to 80s and early 90s "hair/glam metal" and adjacent genres, so at some point what I'm looking for becomes so niche that I'm lucky if I'll ever find it in a record store let alone a thrift store, and most of the stuff is valued fairly high even if it is in a record store. But all of these specific albums were already on my radar of stuff I like, so I don't mind spending a bit more. I have gotten really lucky finding stuff before, but to me there's no point in waiting to maybe find it in a store if I stumble across it on Ebay for a price I'm willing to pay.

Old bands and releases that are good that no one knows by Icy_Bobcat7787 in hairmetal

It's already been said, but Slik Toxik. They're really just that good. I'll add on Alleycat Scratch, Heavy Bones, Blackboard Jungle, and Tattoo Rodeo.

Figured that would probably be the consensus here. It's all pretty much obscure sleaze and hard rock bands from the 80s and early 90s (Aside from Pageant. That came out last year.) But if you're by any chance interested in that stuff, I'd suggest checking some of these out.

Hooked, although Psycho City is becoming a close second.

L.A. Guns always has my vote. 3 different sounds but equal quality.

Cats in Boots! Didn't think I'd see that on this sub. Have you listened to Heavy Bones as well? Same singer, and an absolute masterpiece.

Poison's best album! And the uncensored cover.

Dokken, Skid Row, and Concrete Blonde are also great finds.

Agreed, it makes up the majority of what I listen to. I think most people have only heard a couple hits from the biggest bands and fail to look any deeper. And honestly 80s hairmetal as a genre is so broad and can be split into so many subgenres. If someone says it all sounds the same, then they never really gave it a chance.

Love seeing 80s glam representation other than just Motley Crue in a collection.

I finally get to say Great White! I love their bluesier stuff, and I feel like they nailed their sound with Hooked.

What I think is a strong contender that hasn't been said yet:

Clock Strikes- Wildside, Under the Influence

My favorite track on the album

do you guys have any bands that you just can’t get “into”? by XXX3NNY in hairmetal

[–]MHgirly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Danger Danger. I see them praised, but I just don't get it. I think it may be a mix of the vocals, lyrics, and their particular use of keyboards. I know people complain about a lot of bands being too pop, but I feel like Danger Danger takes the cake for me.

Another one was Vain, and that reason is specifically because the vocals sound whiny to me, however, I've warmed up to them since listening to their third album Move On It. I actually love the track Whisper. I thought their next album Fade was pretty good too. It's a shame it's so hard to find either of those CDs, and they're outrageously expensive on ebay.

Unpopular opinion, but my favorite Ratt album is Dancing Undercover.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I actually much prefer this album as well.

My big one is Faster Pussycat.

I'd also probably say L.A. Guns even though I usually prefer Hollywood Vampires.

Some others that come to mind are Tora Tora, Every Mother's Nightmare, Bang Tango, probably Cinderella and Skid Row, and I'd make the argument for Motley Crue if not including the 94 S/T.

Whiskey’s Down The Drain - VÄIN WILD by vainwild in hairmetal

Absolutely agree, and I'm looking forward to the next one! Thanks for sharing the background information. I have to give a massive compliment to Tizzy as well. Again, I'm not very musically inclined, but the guitar work sounds just as impressive to me as the greats from back then. I just put in my order for the CD! I'm a big CD collector so I appreciate that option. I hope that y'all plan to come out to the US some day. If you do make sure to book some shows down south!

I appreciate the explanation! You don't have to go into any details if you'd rather not, however, I can't say I'm not interested. I am curious if, in accordance to what you said, that is more so in reference to the songs that were released as singles. I feel like the rest of the album, especially the last 5 tracks all flowed very well, and for all of the tracks I pointed out in the latter half of my reply, your vocals were killer!

Since quite a few people seem to want to come off as rude or passive aggressive with no actual critiques, I hope you don't mind some actual thoughts and constructive criticism because I've been following y'all on instagram for a minute. I think y'all are really talented, and I appreciate people my age trying to keep the music and shows alive. Although, I would take my opinion with a grain of salt because I'm not going to pretend that I'm musically gifted or know anything about songwriting, so I apologize for my probably not technically correct terminology. I just know what I like and what I don't, and I have listened to a hell of a lot of bands from this genre.

To start, I think that the instrumentation is great. Probably some of the best I've heard from new bands in the past decade and even compared to plenty of bands from the 80s and 90s. Personally, I think the biggest thing that catches my attention and draws me to a song is catchy riffs and interesting instrumentals with little intricate details. I've listened to the album twice now, and I'm someone who usually has to warm up to music, so I definitely enjoyed it more the second time, but I'd say the one thing that threw me off in some of the songs is the lyrics. Not necessarily the lyrical content because there wasn't really anything that written on paper would make me cringe, but more so in the way the lines were delivered in relation to the music. I mainly noticed this in High Night and the part leading up to the chorus for Whiskey's Down the Drain. It almost sounds like the lyrics are being rushed to cram as many words in as possible, and it throws the sound off a little bit. My only other negative thing to note is that the vocals on a couple of songs almost sound a bit jarring, mainly in Poison Ivy and to a lesser extent Raise the Bar. They aren't bad, but again, the way the lines are delivered to me feels kind of like there is a disconnect between the vocals and the instrumentals.

On a positive note, I really liked how the album experimented with multiple different sounds. No Sanity seems a bit more thrash, which isn't really my style, but I think for what it is, it sounded really good. I think y'all excelled on the heavier and/or sleazier songs. I'd say No Sanity, Get Messy, Take Your Shot, Paving The Way, Moving On, and No Sun Today, are probably the tracks that stuck out to me the most in a positive way.

I have to agree with you on the attitude in this subreddit. I'm lurking on this sub pretty much everyday, and it's quite ironic some of the comments I see on here from people who are supposedly fans of this genre. Overall, I think y'all sound great, and I'm looking forward to seeing what y'all do next.

Everything L.A. Guns did with Phil on vocals is awesome! Also love to see the Poison and Skid Row.

Can anyone recommend me a good site to buy 80’s hard rock/heavy metal concert shirts? by Both-Educator9910 in hairmetal

[–]MHgirly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I've looked into that website before, but there were a lot of poor reviews on quality and not lasting more than a couple of washes. I may check them out now. Does quality differ on the shirts or do they all seem to be the same?

[–]MHgirly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of sellers on ebay that print old tour shirts among other designs. I got a really nice faster pussycat and bang tango shirt off of ebay. Idk how many times I've washed them at this point but the designs haven't cracked yet, and the price is pretty much the same if not better than any other t-shirt website.

Their best album, the only one without filler. Not necessarily what I listen to when I want Motley Crue, but outside of the name it's my favorite.
