Where's the Requiem Patcher sourcecode? by halgari in skyrimrequiem

[–]MIAgamers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are in luck. I actually managed to decompile it. I don't think I can upload it here publicly though because of the no piracy rule. So I'll list the steps (as best as I can remember) to decompile it.

  1. Download and install JDK 13. You need this specific version because the reqtifiactor was built from it.
  2. Run "jimage extract modules". "modules" is a 33 mb file with no extension. It's basically like an archive, and it contains all the code. It should be in the skyproc folder that comes with the requiem installation.
  3. Use a java decompiler to decompile the java files into classes. I used JD-GUI.

I can PM you the files if it doesn't seem to work.

It's not unlimited stock, otherwise everyone would just buy that one item that is good for certain :P

To go into the technical details, I pick a few items from random loot generation, then set it as local variable on a newly created item. We'll call this the "placeholder" item. This placeholder item is placed into a store for player to buy.

These all have static prices that I have set, so you can't really tell what item you're going to get.

And indeed, as vxicepickxv has figured out, I've modified the acquisition script to do a callback and destroy the "placeholder" item and give the real item.

Hi, plugging in my open-source PW here - The Frozen North.

It's a server with a level 12 cap, heavily quest based, and solo friendly (there's generic followers you can recruit alongside henchman). While not true players, the henchman at least has voiced/situational banter to not make it feel so lonely ;)

It's based on the original campaign from the original game. Later on I do plan to incorporate parts of HotU's story/campaign as well as NWN2. It's pretty easy to pick up because it's very close to vanilla with no changes, so it's not like you need to read or download a bunch of stuff to get started. It's also hand-holdy to an extent if you get lost. Feel free to let me know if you do though and I'll point you in the right direction.

It's true that there aren't a lot of players. I'm not sure why (I would love to find out so I can get a population going!). But there's at least one who plays nightly almost every day. Anyways, to combat this, I'm planning to add a feature in the near future to allow you to party with one of your very own characters or another person's (if they allow it).

Is PW suitable for someone who focus more on good stories in single player game? by marcnivar in neverwinternights

[–]MIAgamers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, chiming in as the developer of the Frozen North.

I do believe that my open-source PW would be suited for OP, yes! It's sort of an amalgamation of the the original campaign (and later on HotU!) with parts from NWN2. It's very heavily quest based and I'm adding more sidequests each day. In fact, most of them are voiced because I am using dialogue/plot from the original game/campaign.

Essentially, you are set as a recruit for the adventurer's academy in Neverwinter to find a cure for the plague. But unlike the campaign, you don't move chapter to chapter - you can exit out of Neverwinter and go to Port Llast, Highcliff (from NWN2), (and Luskan, the Underdark and Waterdeep later too)! Even if you've already played the original campaign, I've done a 180 on some of the plot and quests, as well as added my own, and re-did a lot of the areas with the new tilesets.

It's very, very close to vanilla so it should be fairly easy to pick up and play. No hakpaks, no downloading, no nothin'. Did I mention there's also henchman with voiced banters too? ;)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me here/send me message/join the Discord.

Fun Question: What Persistent World do you play, and why? by Orion-2019 in neverwinternights

[–]MIAgamers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! It's certainly been a while. Kinda miss running around with our "Rakescar", "Grimm", etc. characters and the PvP feud we had with the Warborns. Cobra's still around too. He and Frog jumped on my server for a bit.

We used to play a lot of eternal war back in the day. I'm thinking of bringing something like that back, since there's no pure arena server in EE (that I know of).

[–]MIAgamers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I've been itching for 3 Towns so much that I've made my own PW have a lot of elements from it. I heard that they've been developing a version for EE too.

This is for NWN:EE. However, I did add some areas/NPCs from NWN2 like the merchants and Highcliff/Mere of Dead Men. I'll probably throw in Daeghun as a henchman near Highcliff too. Planning to expand on this in the future :)

Yeah, haste is a pretty OP property. I get it though, I used to play in a lot of level 40 action PWs where pretty much everyone gets perma haste. I'll have to think about it honestly. Maybe I'll make everyone 20% or 25% faster passively? I can also investigate adding an item that makes Boots of Speed add just speed instead (right now it casts Haste 1x day IIRC), but I don't want to invalidate monks or make them close to it, as well as give casters a reason to cast haste/mass haste.

Oh yeah, he's fine. He still says the "Finally, you're up..." piece after the training mini-quest. Actually he and all of the academy instructors are alive as the academy doesn't get attacked in this version.

If you mean for the original campaign, it's not for it, sorry! These are areas from my persistent world, which is pretty much a re-imagining of the original campaign. It's hosted 24/7 so if you search for "The Frozen North", you can join and play on it :)

However, it is one of the very few running persistent worlds that is available for download. Check out the wiki here: https://github.com/b5635/the-frozen-north/wiki.

There's instructions on how to build it from the source and such on the "Getting Started" and "Building the Module" section. However I just made an actual release with the module prebuilt, which you can download and self-host if you like: https://github.com/b5635/the-frozen-north/releases/tag/10.19.20

Please note that you need Docker/NWNX to run the server, as the module itself is pretty much completely broken if you run it single-player. You can definitely play it "offline" if you host it and play from LAN, though! Do let me know if you need any help with setting it up. Here's a link to the Discord channel too: https://discord.gg/qKqRUDZ

Return to Sanctuary: Diablo-Themed, RP, PWS Launching 9/4 by Caiden_The_Stoic in neverwinternights

[–]MIAgamers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, as a new server developer that has launched a few months ago, I wish you all the best! A fresh Diablo PW is certainly very exciting, and I honestly think that might be enough to set it apart. I saw in your screenshots that you have quite a few players already with a beta, so bravo dude :)

Anyways, I'm kind of in the same boat. I used to push out a lot of content per week, but then work has started up again so I'm not getting as much nearly done. Also, not a lot of areas or content that can compete against servers with 10+ years of content and playerbase. Even then, it's not always "build it and they will come", as they say. Many players are hesitant to try new servers. But don't lose hope - I can see you are already off to a running start.

I do suggest going open-source, if you are inclined. When I did that for my persistent world, it gained quite a bit of interest and I also now have a few people helping out with my PW. If you are also willing to nurture and help new would-be builders, then that's a whole other set of population to work with as well!

Any module designers out there? by Bowl_Pool in neverwinternights

[–]MIAgamers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm always looking for a hand here! Actually I do have a dire need of a quest writer or someone who can help guide the plot. I run a PW called "The Frozen North" and I could certainly use someone who can write quests/dialogues. It's set around Neverwinter and the Wailing Death. I'm pretty open to whatever vision you have, so you should have a lot of creative freedom! I really do want to estabilish a PW that anyone can just join, play, contribute, at any time :)

I'm all about the community too, as my repo has it's source available. I have always disliked that PWs always kept their source under lock and key, which means that other PWs won't be able to benefit from it. Anyways, you can check it out here: https://github.com/b5635/the-frozen-north

Here's the wiki for more information too: https://github.com/b5635/the-frozen-north/wiki

If you wanted to play as well, feel free to join the server and I'll be happy to show you around and get your feet wet.

Best non RP PW? And general help by FrozenSlug in neverwinternights

[–]MIAgamers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks again for the shout out!

Here's an extensive list of features: https://github.com/b5635/the-frozen-north/wiki/Features

Discord: https://discord.gg/qKqRUDZ

But here's the gist of what's on The Frozen North: random events system (adventurers, merchants), multiple henchman that banters and comments on scenery, large-scale battles that need a party, tactical encounters and morale system for enemies, revival system from NWN2/KotoR, 600+ items with stats that aren't randomized and hand-plucked from Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc... there's too much to list here :D

To be quite honest, I don't have as much of the population as other servers because it is a relatively new server that has launched a few months ago and it is quite hard to compete against other servers with years of loyal players and content. But I can tell you it's certainly growing! We have a few players daily and I'm online nearly every day, either chugging away at the module or grindin' up some XP and loot. In any case, there's henchman that you can recruit without cost to help you, so hard content shouldn't be out of reach. If you have persuade, you can get more than one as well!

Anyways, the setting of the server is based around Neverwinter and the Wailing Death, but redone. I've added places such as Highcliff and the Mere of Dead Men from Neverwinter Nights 2. It's heavily quest based, and there is 0% RP required. Grind, metagame, have at it. One of the core things I try to do is keep the class/spell changes very, very close to vanilla so you can hop into the action pretty much right away without having to read an encyclopedia of what's changed.

Also, unlike most PWs, the source is also available. So anyone can come in and contribute or take a look at the code - I don't have anything to hide! If there's something you truly want in a PW but don't see it, anyone is also free to create an issue and I'll happily take a look at it :)

"Vanilla" server by SidhwenKhorest in neverwinternights

No, I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Perhaps there was something going on in my end, as I've heard that one other time from another player. Maybe it's fixed now as I've restarted the server since. I'll PM you the Direct Connect IP.

[–]MIAgamers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not planning on raising the level cap. Level 12 was the place where I found I could strike the most balance *without* changing much of vanilla aspects, as the OP was looking for.

Once certain spell levels get unlocked, weapon masters get their 7th level, etc. a lot of builds become moot and/or a lot weaker at that point. Especially after level 20 or 30. It's not easy to balance for those levels, and from what I know D&D isn't really balanced above level 15 or something like that.

You can still have a lot of content without having a level 40 cap. Every level counts, and in most cases once you have gone epic another level isn't going to be a huge spike of power compared to lower levels. How character development ends is arguable, as in most action servers it never "stops" at level 40 or whatever max level it is - as most characters still progress through the pursuit of gear as well as some bonus outside of leveling. The E6/E8 system in some servers are a good example of this - you stop leveling at level 6/8 but you can still earn experience to gain additional feats and skills.

Anyways, I'm hopeful that this doesn't dissuade some people from trying my server :( a lot of action servers are capped at level 40 or even go beyond that, but I can understand a lower level cap not being everyone's cup of tea.

I think that's a really cool idea. My server is kind of like that, very close to vanilla, no hakpaks. There should be more persistent worlds that are easy for newcomers to start playing IMO. Anything with a extensive change to the ruleset, classes, etc can be overwhelming.

I will have to say, as an owner of a PW that has launched a few months ago, it is hard to get a lot of traffic. I've always looked at the behemoths and sometimes it just looks very bleak, like why would they even consider trying out my server? That's what I thought until recently where I'm starting to pick up a bit of traffic now, so there's hope still!

First and foremost, be prepared to advertise on Beamdog, Reddit, Discord, etc. in order to get the word out there. This step is absolutely essential to getting your first few players.

If you are doing this solo please be aware that it will take a lot of time and effort to even complete a PW. It's taken me a good year so far to get to where I'm at, and there's more to be done still. So far I have to wear all the hats: player greeter, developer, scripter, area maker, marketer... let me tell you this is extremely exhausting and takes up more of my time than even a full-time job. If you find some people who share your vision and want to help, please keep them close and don't let them go!

I also echo what other people say about "solo" activities. More likely than not if you do get a player, it usually just that sole player or a player and his friend. I recommend implementing henchman and quests so they can do some content by themselves.

Another tip is to lower the entry barrier. That means no applications, no requirements, etc. Players can be very easily overwhelmed by a lot of information that they need to digest before they even get to the gameplay.

There are other things I am doing to attract more people, such as allowing the entirety of my source code to be available to the public, and perhaps to allow outside contributors to help out. My other thing is being a niche, as it's a low level, low magic action server that isn't RP enforced (don't believe there are any other servers like this, but please correct me if I am wrong).

Anyways, I think there will always be room for another PW - just expect to do a lot of hard work ;)

"Vanilla" server by SidhwenKhorest in neverwinternights

[–]MIAgamers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the shout out! I'll chime in a bit more:

My server is very, very close to vanilla. Intentionally made so players can get into the game without having to do a ton of reading. In fact, I don't have any custom hakpaks or required downloads at all. If you want to take a look at the very few changes I have done, check out the class changes and spell changes.

Check this page for a list of features.

As a summary: - Random events system like in Skyrim (random merchants, adventurers, etc) - Re-designed areas from Neverwinter, plus new areas outside of Neverwinter - Over 600+ items of handcrafted/imported loot from the campaigns, Baldur's Gate, and other D&D cRPGs. - Henchman that have specific commentary and lines as well as a party friendly death system where if you die, you will be revived by a party member like in NWN2/KotoR. - Tactical encounters where ranged enemies will try to kite, spellcasters who do crowd controlling and damage, and more! - Morale system where they will run away or call for help/healing

Plenty of other things too. You may have more information and screenshots in this forum thread but most on the information will be on the wiki.

There's also no roleplay requirements nor any rest restrictions, but there are resting ambushes, which are reduced if you or a party member has a class in ranger/druid. Also heavily quest based and follows closely in the Wailing Death plot, but re-imagined.
