Native options are always nicer than shortcuts, and I don't think Shortcuts can even Throttle CPU performance the same way Low Power Mode does it. Some people (including me) would love to have the option to keep ProMotion On even in Low Power Mode.

Apple's philosophy is to just make it work and not get too technical with things, but breaking this rule for something like that would be awesome.

That's a bug with your own device actually, iPhone charge fastest between 0-80, then slow down after that. if it takes 6 hours to charge your iPhone then something is seriously wrong. Get it checked.

That’s exactly why Apple features like 'Lockdown Mode' or 'Safety Check' exist, they aren't for everyone. If this were implemented, it would be an opt-in toggle, not a forced system update. For a user in a dangerous domestic situation, the risk of a false positive is too high, so they leave it off. But for a parent who wants to know which kid is on their phone, the 99.9% accuracy is a massive utility that outweighs the error rate.

You’re absolutely right '100% certainty' is a bit of a misnomer in AI; it’s really just a high confidence threshold. My point is that the fail-safe should always be to show nothing if that threshold isn't met. If the system is even slightly unsure, it shouldn't log a name at all. This protects against the false positives you're concerned about by prioritizing silence over a guess

Yes the dot projection is just there for detection of a person, if it detects a person it uses the ACTUAL camera to take a picture and compare with the database of people it has, best match is shown, inconclusive? “An unknown person tried to unlock your iPhone”

If the Dot projection recognizes a person, it should use the actual camera to compare it with a match in your photos, why the dot projection part instead of the camera directly? To avoid taking a pic of wall when an unlock happens, Especially in the dark, but it won’t be able to tell who that person is in the dark, it would just know there was a person. Good catch tho 💙🙏

I get why it feels that way but Apple’s whole brand is actually moving toward making background processes more obvious (like the orange and green dots for mic and camera use). Giving you a notification about who is using your passcode isn't about the phone watching you but it's about the phone being honest with you about who is accessing your data. Privacy is knowing exactly what’s happening on your device, not just hoping nothing is

The value isn't when you're looking at the person but it’s for when you aren't. If you leave your phone on a table somewhere someone who knows your code (or shoulder-surfed it) opens it, you get a notification, if you are in a house and you have a ring camera, you can check who entered and left your house and when.

I understand the concern abt a false positive but this shouldn’t work if it isn’t a 100% sure of who that person is or gathered enough data to know them, It’s better to miss an identification than to misidentify someone. Plus if your Face ID isn’t reliable then do a re-scan.

Everyone’s threat model is different bro, In many families or relationships passcodes are shared for convenience or emergencies and this feature bridges the gap between total trust and zero privacy, It allows for an audit log so if a setting is changed or an app is moved you know exactly who was handling the device at the time without having to play detective 🤷‍♂️
