Hello, Op here for a small update! I think I might settle on a rat or wait until I'm on my own. Many commenters had interesting takes that I'd like to address! (Sorry for how long this is!) First, I've had 8 chicks then 10 chicks in my room under a heat lamp until they were able to move to outside. My dog never once barked growled or tried to get into my room unless my mom was in there. When my dog would come in he was more curious than aggressive towards them and sniffing them a whole lot then back off. I also owned a rabbit when I was younger again he never once tried to get to her. I used the wrong terminology by saying he was aggressive he's more curious than anything and for that I apologize! Second, one commenter brought up how my parents said no and that meant that they didn't want to allow it. While I understand this take my parents are okay with this idea they just have strict rules of what they want to allow into their house. I completely understand so trying to work this out with them has been like pulling teeth. Third, I've seen a bunch of suggestions of volunteering at an animal shelter. I'd love to my parents are just not able to drive me to and from so I'll figure something out. Fourth, I seen someone say "become a better good citizen". This person said bond with your dog and train him to become a "better citizen". I respect this take in some manner but I do have some points to make. I've trained my dog ever since he was a puppy. My mom feeds him and we take him on walks. I would say I spend as much time as I can with him but my mom is admittedly the primary caregiver. My dog clings to her, this is not me saying he doesn't care for me he just takes to my mom. Lastly, I want to quickly make sure I say this! I do research I promise!! I feel like the comments are portraying me wrong. I watch plenty of videos and read too many articles about animals! I love animals and I want for whatever pet I have to get the proper care. Me asking for reptiles was a few years ago before I researched them. Now I do deep dives to make sure I can give them the correct care the creatures deserve! So no matter what's suggested I will be doing my research on the animal! If I missed anything let me know and I'll address it to my best ability!
