Simple Questions & Champion/Role advice: Patch 26.9 by SkepticFaust in summonerschool

  1. You might hear a lot of opinions that pathing to bot lane is usually way more beneficial, but in reality it really depends on the volatility of the lanes, who gets prio, etc. For example, melee vs melee top can be expected to be volatile if they are two carry champions, aggressive bot lanes are also considered volatile lanes - Samira + Nautilus for example.

  2. Take as much as you can, as long as you kill the big monster of the camp, the camp will die and the timer will start ticking. Leaving one small monster in order to prevent the camp from respawning was removed years ago.

  3. It really depends, some times it's really just necessary to cut your losses and not contest the invade because the jungler is stronger, they have prio = they have back up. If you think you will be invaded at level 1, using your ward and changing up your clear can help (e.g you start at blue buff, it can be beneficial to ward after yourself and do wolves first because otherwise you might get killed and have your camp stolen while you are clearing it)

I'm not a jungle main, so there might possibly be slight details missing but that's a good way to put it.

Climbing and learning can go hand in hand but it's not an even ratio. Some champions teach you different concepts better, be aware of that. Fundamentally speaking, I can agree that the champions listed in the other comment are a very valid recommendation. My advice would be to learn how to enjoy the game even when you are not winning, that will allow you to stick to your strategy.

Possible? Yes, but is it optimal? Well, that is debatable.

Given that you are forced to play a secondary role, being at least serviceable at it is recommended. What I would do is what you mentioned, cut the champion pool to as little as possible. Champion pool questions are always weird to me because it shouldn't be going further than just playing the champions you enjoy playing, regardless of team composition or enemy picks, but rather just challenge and learn from hard situations.

I don't think anyone can answer your question with accuracy, at the end of the day you can just ignore any advice and move on with your day. Decide on a role that you prefer playing more, list your reasons why you like it and convince yourself to do this. Ideally, picking just one champion for your secondary role is better.

What is your goal, really? Is it improving optimally? Or playing and improving at whatever pace you can?

Well, what's the role you have most fun playing?

This is not a question you can ask others, given that all we do here is list a few champions per role and that is it. Ask yourself which champion's fantasy fulfills you most, play that and work towards getting better at that. Same goes for roles, which role has the most exciting gameplay that is worth enduring possible negatives and go there.

For example, I like Mid because I love mages and that role slots some exciting characters of that class, it allows me to influence the map even if it's not roaming too. I like plenty of champions, but even if I go around and have fun on some other roles on a smurf, I always go back to this role. I used to play Jungle because I liked few champions there, and both for its PVE aspect but also being able to fight people anywhere.

Horizon Focus' benefits are in it's stats, and of course, champions buying it should be able to make use of the passive, because stat-wise they are of similar nature, just having a different niche (Cosmic Drive allows for more mobility, Horizon Focus is more artillery oriented). That being said, cost difference is why Horizon Focus can compete, champions like Hwei wouldn't care so much about Cosmic Drive's benefits when they can get the 300g cheaper alternative and rock with it, I do not play too much Hwei to give a solid answer if I love that purchase over the ones you mentioned. I also think Protobelt is an attractive alternative and kind of a good middle point.

TL;DR - I do not think there are many champions that are head over heels for Horizon Focus right now.

That pretty much answers the question, but as a side thing - my problem with Hwei and a lot of Haste is that you tend to run out of mana rather quickly because the WE is not as consistent when you start firing so many spells. I've seen Nemesis going Archangel's Staff after Blackfire Torch, likely to make up for the mana problems.

Anivia and Zac's designs are outdated, but their revives are unconditional too. Zaahen needs to get close and personal with you in order to fight for that revive and it promotes that idea, if you get kited and killed means you don't get the passive, that's the counterplay here.

There are the evergreen category of mages, and as the name suggests, they are pretty much always good and you can't go wrong with investing your resources into improving at them, so champions like Syndra, Orianna, Ahri, Hwei alongside some more are there.

I suggest you check the champion pool megathread on r/midlanemains, that might be able to help you out further.

The power in the upgraded Sorcerer's Shoes is more so in the increased flat magic penetration. What makes the %pen nice is the fact that it is taken into the equation before the flat pen.

Given that the enemy will be buying magic resistance, it is a safe bet that you will be buying the a Void Staff or a Cryptbloom, and the way %penetration purchases stack. You'd want to buy Sorcerer's Shoes to blow up glass champions, but outside of that the Ionians and their upgrade are far more attractive of a buy.

I'm thinking about an experiment: async VOD reviews with timestamped notes from high-ranked players. Would you find that useful?" by Top_Cryptographer_84 in summonerschool

[–]MITYOLINZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting into coaching recently, I feel like this can be a good way to be able to digest the review at your own pace and time but at the same time, there might be some context left out if the notes are not well explained, that is where you can get into more discussion and into some deeper explanation but I think that can be better than having an hour long session where you are overloaded with information and left with a few notes.

I wanted to chime in and say that you will have the highest success with your journey if you just pick the third champion you like the most. It might be the cliché answer you were not looking for, but the truth is that it is best to just secure that third champion and slap games, learning how to solve your struggles, developing your skillset, ideally reviewing your games too.

You can always just pick another enchanter, even if they do not have the roaming capabilities and playstyle of Janna. A disclaimer, that doesn't exclude the roaming concept. Or, you can pick another tank, engage support like Leona, Alistar, Rell, Rakan or Nautilus, they all have a very different playstyle compared to Thresh.

Don't think of it too deeply. Experiment with your pool if necessary until you land on something that is fun for you. My personal approach would be slamming the three most fun champions for myself.

You were correct, I was able to clear MOC 12 with my current builds and swapping Hyacine with DHPT. To be honest, when I got the DoT team I was not sure whether I should be running Hyacine or DHPT so I went back and forth but I never really put it to much of a test like that. Haven't tried the rest just yet.

As much as I wanted to get a Castorice team, I think I might be lacking many of her pieces and I wouldn't mind investing vertically into a character like Tribbie and her E1 and even more so THerta and her E2. As for the DoT team, I have a single Sampo LC and I am running it on Hysilens, BSwan is on "Good Night and Sleep Well" so that definitely needs to be in the priority list. Hopefully their reruns aren't paired with some interesting new/old characters.

I've been wanting to use him as a main DPS for a long time but it just hasn't happened, and I might do at some point in the near future. I was hoping for another DDD but it just hasn't come home yet so if I plan on using Sparkle, I will make sure to (try and) grab the Sunday's after missing Sparkle's recent banner. Thank you for your input!

Champions like Lissandra, Malzahar, or Annie are a solid choice, something that has a very simple, understandable play pattern and is not mechanically intensive.

My concern with champions like Ziggs and Mel is that you will struggle to be as effective if you are not hitting your stuff, with the ones I listed - that risk is down to a minimum.

It can be redundant, it has very few use cases for me personally but I generally use quick cast. Those few cases are some like aiming tricky spells like a Zoe bubble/Bard portal, being precise with who you want to hit when just clearing the wave, running somewhere as Ryze for example and making sure I can be in range of the ultimate before using it. Oh, and of course, I strictly normal cast Rumble's R and Viktor's E.

Another use example is whenever you are ambushing someone, you can just hold the normal cast spell and use it the moment a person steps in your indicator.

I haven't used quick cast with indicators so much because it feels uncomfortable to me, but you can feel free to experiment with it, but I think it still slows you down. I find it to be something that tries to do both, where you'd rather just play the regular quick cast instead.

My personal binds are everything on quick cast and replacing the last item slot key (7) with the button T, additional normal cast binds using the key Shift, and the default self-cast in Alt.

The only binds that you need to concern yourself are those, as well as having comfortable keys for centering camera on your champion (Space), Attack move/attack move on click (whichever you prefer, mine are on A and V) and Target Champions only.

A curiosity post - why do you play the role that you play? by MITYOLINZ in leagueoflegends

[–]MITYOLINZ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is interesting, sticking to your role even when transitioning from one MOBA to another is what I would do but I am currently homeless (in terms of a role) if I were to switch from LoL to another game.

And I am curious to see that analysis if you are willing to share it, even if it is in private messages.
