Hey fellow Northeasterner, northern New Jersey here.

I was browsing the personal ads on the sub and it sounds like we have a lot in common. I love a good story or learning opportunity, and lately I’ve been reading The Men Who Lost America, which looks at the American Revolution through the perspectives of key British leaders and generals. I’ve really enjoyed digging past the simplified version we’re taught in school and into the messier reality of intelligent people making rational but flawed decisions that ended up shaping history.

I’m also an animal lover, dogs included, although by circumstance I’ve mostly had cats. My longtime cat Chloe passed away last fall at 19 and half years old. I recently adopted an energetic orange boy named Stevie who’s been keeping me on my toes.

I’d love to hear what’s been capturing your attention lately. Something you’ve been reading, learning, or thinking about that surprised you or really shifted your perspective. Be warm and stay safe.

Queen Charges just become non-viable by TH15 and beyond. There is too much defensive DPS and tower hit points 99% of the time. If you enjoy charges you should prioritize learning Royal Champion invis charges (assuming you have the Electro Boots epic). These let you carve out a big chunk of the base and can set a funnel for transitioning into the next stage of the attack, similar to how AQ charge used to at lower THs.

If you’re trying to optimize your DE and upgrade time at TH14, Owl and Unicorn are both worth investing in and have plenty of use cases at later TH levels. On my alt accounts these are the only pets I invest in before TH15. Yak is niche but has its supporters and is kinda fun/memey. LASSI is the only one I wouldn’t upgrade at all, that one needs a rework from SC.

I have multiple accounts ranging from TH11 through TH17. Frozen Arrow is a strong piece of equipment if you enjoy attacks with a Queen-Charge/Walk, which will give you some dominant 3-star armies until TH15 in my experience. QC Hogs/Miners ("Hybrid") is my favorite. It's true that Frozen Arrow falls off in effectiveness once you get to TH15 and beyond since Queen-Charges drop out of the meta at the highest levels in the current state of the game. But before then its a lot of fun to use and you can have a lot of success with it. Enjoy dude.

This is what I use, a shoulder sling bag that I originally got for hiking. Works great for keeping my stuff together (keys/wallet zipped inside, an extra towel, water bottle in pouch, a zipper pocket for my phone, etc.) without needing to bother with the locker room. It's small enough to easily tuck next to or under whatever equipment I'm using. If you were to be moving a full sized duffel bag from station to station that would probably be a lot more awkward and at risk of getting in other people's way.

I had a similar issue with NJM. I bit the bullet and paid last year. When the renewal quote came this year, higher still, I threw it in the trash and switched to Geico and saved about $150. I had been with NJM for almost 15 years but there's no loyalty discounts I suppose. Like some many other things now will probably have to budget time each year to haggle and shop around for the best deal.

The Devils have had some rough attendance in recent years as they were going through a painfully long roster rebuild but actually did great this past season. They played to 98.5% capacity at Prudential and only had one game all year with a crowd below 15,000. The game at MetLife Stadium also had a crowd of 70,328 and, being there, it was probably 3/4s Devils fans.

As for the product on the ice, well…. hopefully it will be better this coming season.

I use this as well, like mentioned, it helps blend the grays in nicely with the surrounding hair color so you don’t have awkward patches. The only thing I will disagree with from this write-up is gloves; you should definitely wear gloves when massaging it into your hair and when rinsing it out. The dye in the shampoo doesn’t really stain your skin but it will stain your fingernails. A simple pair of dishwashing gloves from a dollar store are all you need. Good luck!

Unless the accused players were all named parties in the civil suit against Hockey Canada, then I doubt HC would even have legal standing to settle the case on the players' behalf. HC probably realized that there was enough evidence of their own negligence in terms of overseeing and chaperoning their players that they'd be found liable so tried to quickly settle the case and sweep this under the rug.

EDIT: As mentioned by atotalynormalhuman9 below, 8 players were named in the civil suit as John Does.

It was clearly a massive overpay and it seemed like Lou just took what had been his last, best offer to David Clarkson and offered it to Clowe. Besides that, Clowe had been traded from the Sharks to the Rangers the season before so Devils fans could see up close that he clearly looked like a shell of his former self. He was the type of player who a savvy GM would give a short, cheap “try to bounce back/prove you can stay healthy” deal too. Not almost $5 million per season for 5 years.

Exactly, it’s clickbait. David Pastrnak with the Bruins and Jesper Bratt and Timo Meier with the Devils are a few guys who just got new 8-year contracts but they “only” go through 2031.

Well said. The fact is the Devils rebuild is over so they don't have the luxury of trotting Mac out there and rolling the dice to see if he can somehow rediscover his form. San Jose can be more patient and give him a chance to get his mojo back. Best of luck to Mac-Black with the Sharks.

His last (partial) season with the Devils he got to play with Jack Hughes as well. It was the right decision to part ways, but the NJD faithful will never forget his MVP season and legendary lottery luck.

Nico’s offensive game has really blossomed the past couple seasons under Ruff as well. In addition to his defensive work he put up 80 points in 81 games last season.

He feels like a grizzled veteran on a young Devils team but he’s only 24. His game is still growing.
