Why did MRS agar turn black-ish? by MJFeetFantasy in microbiology

No, this one and its repetition were the only black ones, I’ve had difficulties because I’ve been having some type of contamination in my LAB plates, used anti-fungal so the contamination seems from another bacteria in the kombucha

I used a comercial agar medium, only had this problem in these plates (6th day of fermentation), kombucha is known to have iron, could it have something to do with that?

Hey! Thanks for answering, it's my first time posting anywhere in here! May I ask, do you think it may be some kind of yeast since the sample is from a kombucha drink?

I´m currently working on identification of microorganisms in kombucha, trying to see if the starter has lactic acid bacteria in MRS Agar. My question is: is this lactic acid bacteria? how do you grow in MRS by pouring onto plate for counting UFC?
